Bright Idea of the Week

I haven't posted a Bright Idea in a couple of weeks and since I know you've all just been sitting around worrying about when I might get around to it again, I thought I'd do it today to ease your suffering.

This is my shoe basket that I keep by my front door. I don't know about at your house, but at my house people are gently encouraged to take their shoes off at the door. Actually around here you don't even have to encourage because almost everyone just does it. I would never ask someone to take their shoes off if they left them on. Well, that's not completely true. I would ask people that I know very well, small dirty children and people who have obviously just been hiking during a mudslide. Oh, and family. But absolutely nobody else. Since I'm a "neatie" I decided to put this basket by the front door for people to toss their shoes in. It works great, but if we're being honest here, I'll admit that I am usually the one putting the shoes in the basket. It's still a heck of a lot better than having all of those shoes laying around.

  2. Thank you for a needed idea! Same here, we try to take off shoes at the door. And then what???? Eeeeek! You know what I mean.

Perhaps it's time for me to adopt your basket idea!!!

  3. What a great idea. We take our shoes off too but they are left on the front step because the dog chews them up if we leave them in the entry way. Thanks for the great idea!

  6. That's a really good idea. I find shoes seem to get everywhere in my place as it's a relatively small flat. I have a line of shoes in the hall and they annoy me all the time so a basket might be a better idea.

  9. A shoe basket what a great idea, much nicer than a rack. I do however think that like you I would be the one putting the shoes in the basket.

The camera I got is a Canon Rebel XTi.....I love it! I really need to study a little and learn about all the bells and whistles....but I am having fun playing with it. I teach....so this summer when I have a little more time, I might take a class or at least do an online workshop....or maybe read a book.....

  12. Yep shoes are a problem when they are lying around, but I wonder if your basket is big enough, I think I'd need a much bigger one lol. Your entrance looks really impeccable and fresh!

  14. Great idea! I have an old WWII ammunitions box which has a lift up lid and is painted yellow with flowers all over it. I keep this by the back door and 'encourage' my husband to put his shoes in it (the lid keeps any odours at bay!!!)

  15. Oh I had to come back and tell you, I tried your idea, and it's working!!!

Mine is a large basket-thing. But the effect is the same... that of not having shoes scattered about, by the door way.

    Thank you!!!
