Maddie's Room

This is Maddie's room. She's 13 and before you ask me how I managed to have a teenager who is so neat, let me assure you that it's called "selective photography". I swear this is the last time we are redecorating her room. No, really, I mean it this time. I swear. I'm not paying for any more bedding sets. Or paint. This is it.
I just got done refinishing this writing desk as a vanity for her. You know how some things look so much better in person than in the pictures you post? This isn't one of them and by the way, here's a tip for you: Don't ever refinish furniture when you have PMS. Seriously.

There are still a few minor things to get for this room, a chair for her vanity, a wall mounted magazine holder and a few things for the wall but this is essentially the most finished room in our house. Of course, now Emma is begging for her room to be finished too. I guess my plans to focus on the downstairs rooms will be put off for awhile.

  1. What a lucky girl with such a talented mommy! The room is beautiful - where did you find the bedding?

  2. I'm so envious. My 14 year old daughter doesn't want her room to look "decorated", she just wants rock posters and a bunch of clutter spread out. I'll never be showing pictures of her room on my blog. LOL.

  3. The room is beautiful! You did a lovely job! And, thanks for the much-needed giggles about your honest comments about "selective photography" and about PMS and refinishing--I have lived through both myself! :)

  6. Oh, it looks so grown-up & elegant. Hope Maddie enjoys her new room. I think we all know about selective photograhy & thank goodness for the "crop" feature.

  9. Ha ha last time you'll do this. I said that too several times now. My daughter is in NYC for school. She's now a senior in college!!! The day after she left right after Christmas my hubby looked at me and said that room has to change. We made just a few changes and what a difference it made. She came home on spring break...I kind of dreaded seeing her reaction. She LOVED everything!! Now I'm just crossing my fingers it will stay that way when she comes home for summer. Your daughter's room is lovely. I'm really into calm peaceful spaces. Life is stressful enough... a serne bedroom is a must to start and end your day.

  13. I can relate to the "now Emma is betting for her room to be finished too". We moved my older son to his own room this winter...and we ended up painting/fixing all three of the kid's rooms...talk about sibling rivalry. I love your daugher's bedroom and the finished vanity looks great!

  16. I love Maddie's room - it's so calm and elegant. My daughter's room is a bright blue (I mean bright), before that it was purple! I wish she would like a room like your Maddie's. I'm with Cindy, I'll also never be showing my girl's room!

  20. So lovely! That bed looks so comfy! My 12 year old daughter's room looks like such a shack now though it was the first room to be decorated when we moved here. We're getting ready within the next few months to do remodeling work in there, so I'm trying not to let the current pitiful state get to me to much, lol.
