A Work in Progress

This is part of what I've been keeping busy with while Sweet Hubby is gone. For some reason the whole project is fighting me. I start painting & realize that I forgot to fill the holes. I can't find the spackle. A lengthy search only to discover it's almost completely dried up. I can't find my putty knife. Where's the sanding block? I forgot to bring up the drop cloth. Where did I put the ladder? The cat walked on the newly painted window sill. Repaint. Wash the cats feet. He loves that. And so on...

Emma loves the color, kind of like a strawberry milkshake. I wanted something much more muted but I'm not 6 and it's not my room. So there. I hope to cut some of the pink sweetness with plenty of red and white accents and vintage fabric and accessories. Stay tuned.

  1. My painting projects all go like that!

I love the idea of using red and white accents, with this color of pink. I think it will work wonderfully to "cut" the color.

    I really enjoy your blog.

  2. Been there, dome that ... isn't painting torture. The end result is so worth it, but the process, not so much... I can't wait to see the room when it is done. I'm sure it will be gorgeous!

  3. Very exciting, Jen...even if it's not igniting the biggest spark in you. Bet your fire comes later, when it's time to accessorize! Can't wait to see the results.

  5. Been there! People always say painting is the easiest way to change a room - I guess they forget all about all the prep work involved.

That'll be pretty with red accents. Can't wait to see it all done!

  6. I can't wait to see the finished room! (I hate painting, btw. If I want a room painted...I get my husband and kids to do it.)
My two cats always walk around with 'extra color' any time we paint.

  7. I think the room will look adorable when you get done. I heard if you run out of spackle, you can use toothpaste.
    Who knew??

  8. Oh, I had to laugh at your litany of painting annoyances--that's how all my projects go, too. (Minus the cat!)

Eager to see the finished room!

  9. I love pink with red...for my wedding I wanted both red and pink gerber daisies...Mom my insisted that red and pink don't "go"...but they remain to this day, one of my favorite color combos, especially out in the flower garden! But really, what is sweeteer than a little girls room! Happy painting...oh I can hardly wait to see it all dolled-up!

  10. Ohhh! It'll be such a sweet room for a 6 year old... and the added red and white touches will make it perfect! It'll work out and you'll love it when all your paint predicaments are over.

  11. Yep, that sounds familiar.
I think every painting project I've undertaken has gone something like that. LOL

But, its the quickest and cheapest way to a whole new room.

I'm sure it will be beautiful when its done!

  12. Sounds familiar only I have a miniature poodle. If his fur isn't the color of the day, his nose will be. Can't wait to see the results.

And I love that you have the same issues as me when you're painting!

  15. Sounds like my painting projects except puppy prints! I always seem to do painting projects when my husband is out of town as well.

Can't wait to see the room all finished with your special touches!

  16. painting is never just about the painting...it's all of the other junk/frustrations that go with it. I love your idea about adding lots of red and white to the room...can't wait to see it

  17. What a lovely color! Love that sweet pink - yum! The old wall color is my 6 and 7 year olds' current wallcolor - when we redo their room, they're going to be ready for a change, I'm sure!

I know what you mean about projects fighting you, hehe. That's the story of my life!

Can't wait to see what else you do- it's coming along!
