Farmer's Market

It's the most wonderful time of the year! I know for most of you that would be Christmas but for me, it's the Farmer's Market. I mark opening day on my calendar and for months I anxiously count the days until it arrives. Today is the big day. I make sure to leave room in my grocery budget for the fresh goodies waiting to come home with me. Saturday mornings are very special for me from now until October and if I miss a Saturday it makes me sad. Fresh purple snap beans that turn green when you cook them, new potatoes, green tomatoes, honey, blueberries, corn and peach pies that are just big enough for one. These are a few of my favorite things.

  1. I like the farmer's market too, but here in Southern Calif. we have it all year long. I do like Christmas, how did you know? I like Halloween even better.
Enjoy the fresh fruits and veggies.

  7. Sounds wonderful. We have a local farmers market that luckily is open all year round. I don't visit it nearly as often as I should though as we're so often going out of town at the weekends. Over here there is starting to be quite a big turn against the large supermarkets so it's even more important to support the farmers markets.

  10. I was just going to say that you should move to California because we have farmer's markets year round but I see Rosemary already beat me to it. There are a lot of good things to be found there that's for sure!

  11. Purple snap beans? That sounds wonderful! Our Farmer's Market opened a couple of weeks ago & I've been having fun browsing for new things; I'm jealous of the other CA cousins- our market is only May-Oct :(

  12. I also love farmers markets- as well as "you pick" farms.

Theres a strawberry farm here, I get a big bucket and pick 'em fresh- and then enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

I'm like Rosemary...Halloween/Autumn rank right up with Christmas for me.

  14. Our little town started up a Farmer's Market a couple of years ago and it's getting bigger every year. My only problem is that I feel the need to buy from everyone because i don't want to hurt anyone's feelings! Not such a big problem, but if it keeps growing it will be. I enjoy your blog and check in once a week or so. Thanks for the great posts! Laurie

  15. I loved this post. Our local Farmers' Market opens this Sunday and I can't wait. Although I have a vegetable garden, I can't grow everything and I so enjoy buying a week's worth of fresh food in the open air. You have a wonderful blog and I so enjoy visiting.
