Inspiration Friday- 3 Cheers for the Red, White and Blue

I'm in such a festive & patriotic mood with the holiday just around the corner. I would love to tell you that my house was all decked out for the 4th but it's not. In a perfect world I would have the budget and the basics in place to transform my home for every holiday. For now I will just look at pictures like this and dream. I hope you enjoy your 4th of July as much as I plan to enjoy mine!

I have a funny story to tell you about those rainboots I blogged on yesterday's wishlist. Yesterday after posting that, Emma and I were at Target in the deli section where I was quietly debating if I should get provolone or gouda cheese to use for dinner last night (gouda won) when I looked up and saw a woman at the meat counter with her daughter and she was wearing rainboots just like my coveted ones but in a polka dot pattern and with a denim skirt. She was rockin that outfit! I thought to myself, now that's my kinda girl. I wanna be friends with her. Instead of proclaiming this, I simply complimented her on her fashion choice and walked away because really, how do you meet someone at the Target deli counter and ask them to be your friend without sounding like a complete lunatic? It was so much easier to make friends in kindergarten.

  6. The boots from your list yesterday are on my Amazon.com wishlist and oh how I want them! Polka Dot ones do sound cute too...oh how I need rain boots.

  7. I have polka dot ones that I got at Target last year. I love wearing them - people always seem to have something to say when I have them on LOL!

Loved your photos! I love the bunting on that white house. One day I'll work up the energy to do something like that.

  8. Wow,
I impressed with the fact that your Target has a deli counter.
I saw and loved those pictures in my magazines. If you check my blog I started decorating for the 4th.
    Have a great weekend!

  11. Beautiful pictures! And it reminded me we need a new flag before Wednesday. Gotta go shopping. Thanks!

I see women in stores and have the same thoughts. They just look like someone I would have a lot in common with. I would be tickled if one of them approached me!

  16. I love that decked out Victorian house! It is fun to decorate in red/white and blue especially during the summer months. Many people do it here on the Cape. As for me, well, I have to work on it! lol

  19. You crack me up Jen.

One time last year I was in Target and thought I recognized Heather Chadduck from Cottage Living in one of the check-outs. I so wanted to run up to her...tell her how ga-ga I was over every thing she did and then BEG her to be my friend. Heeeee. I whimped out that day, but one day...

Great pictures! I have bunting I need to dig out, and that sink. Oh my...I love that sink.

  20. Jen, half the fun of holiday decorating is building it up by a little each year. I buy end-of-the-season things and put them away for next year. Then, when I open them, it's like having something new (for maybe 75% cheaper). I've been a homeowner for 26 years (in this house 13 years) and I don't think my holiday decorating will ever be truly 'finished'!

  21. Very patriotic pics! I loved them all, especially the front porch.

    Target has a deli?

  22. I so enjoy reading your blog and seeing your pictures. You inspire me to dream and decorate to my heart's content. Your Target story made me chuckle and you are right - it was much easier to make friends in kindergarten.

  24. I got some at Target online. Yellow with pink daisies. Everyone smiles when they see them.

I'm so with you. I often wish I could ask someone to be my friend when I'm out and about. Now I'm moving I'm sure I'll be that stalker at the Target counter.

    Cheers! LA

  25. Love the red white and blue. I'm doing a little decorating but on a very minimal budget. That porch is to die for.
    Happy 4th.

  26. What a cute story! I do that all the time. I wish you *could* just walk up to someone at the Target deli counter and make friends! (Well, until someone twitchy wants to make friends with *me* ha ha ha). Meanwhile, I LOVE love love that sink! Gorgeous!!! Where did you find that photo? ~A :-)

  27. I also meant to say--not only do I not know how people can afford seasonal decorations--but where the heck do they keep all that stuff???? ~A :-)

  30. You know, you're right about it being so much harder to make friends now then when we were kids. Isn't it a darn shame?
    God bless.

  31. I had a moment like that today at the bakery. Young mom with ponytail, 2 kids, and a friendly smile. Said HI, but knew she could be a great friend. Isn't it funny how that happens. Love the red white and blue, too. My fave color combo!

  32. Looving that r/w/b inspiration! Hope you had a jolly independence day!

  33. great photos as always! where do you find them all? magazines, online? I have binders & binders of inspiration photos that are in desperate need of organization & an easy way to find what I'm looking for.

ps, I had to fight the urge to tell some crazy children in Costco the other day to "be nice to your mother!", which was right before the mother said to her kids ~ "behave or that nice lady will never have kids!" So, you see, it is perfectly okay to talk to strangers in the store!
