Displaying the Goods

Yesterday Cammy at Freckled Farm (which just happens to be one of my very favorite blogs) shared pictures of her wonderful creative space which inspired me to get busy organizing my studio so that I could share some new pictures with you.

I found this very versatile shelf at a garage sale last week for $10. Each shelf has a plate groove and is very well made. This piece would work equally well in my family room, kitchen or dining room. I just love pieces like that. Even though I love the black paint, I think I will probably paint it later so that it better fits the decor. I'm waiting until I get all of the pieces for this room before I decide what gets a coat of paint.

I'm enjoying the opportunity to display more of what I have because if I don't see it, I forget I own it.

I had to do some rearranging and hole patching (hate that!) but the space is really coming along. I love the feel of this room because even though the things that are in it are mismatched, it is cozy & completely me. Now I am on the lookout for a large piece of furniture for the wall opposite the work area that will provide a lot of storage. I'm looking for something antique because it better fits in my budget, but finding something old that is at least 12 inches deep and is the right size is proving to be a slow process. Good things come to those who wait.

  1. Jen,

What a wonderful space! I like your reuse of the Target spice jars for buttons. I have tons of those jars...I just can't recycle them because I know they have some purpose! I was in your neck of the woods earlier today and thought of you. My daughter is taking gymnastics at the Y.

  8. Oh dear Jen, your blog is one of my very favorites! It really is too bad we don't live closer to each other.

You have such a lovely space. Isn't it just the best feeling being organized!? Maybe you will find a storage piece this weekend at the CL Fair. Are you looking for something to store your 12x12 paper?

BTW, I adore your wire dress form. Have fun this weekend.

  10. Very inspiring! Love the dress form. And I'm dreaming of a project studio of my own. Someday... I'm trying to be patient while we finish up practical things like our kitchen and bedrooms first.

  11. Great idea Jen! I just bought 3 of those shelves recently...they work everywhere. The most rustic one I just put in my living room with all my silver pieces. Your creating space looks great!

  13. Your work space is looking lovely. I totally know what you mean about having things on display so you remember you have them. I need to do that as I'm always forgetting things at the moment and either buying more of things I already have, or just not using really great stuff. I've decided to create a little workspace for myself now I'm going to be living alone in my flat and I can't wait to get started on it.

  20. I love to see what others do with "regular" items in terms of storage. I have several Ball jars that I inherited from my grandparents, and they usually sit empty. Some have dried rose petals, at Christmastime they hold cranberries floating in water, but I know what to do with them now!!

  24. Hello Jen
Thanks for visiting my blog and your lovely comments. What a beautiful home you have and I love your storage jar idea. I've been collecting old kilner jars to put all my dried foodstuffs in like rice and pasta but what a better idea. My button collection would look much better in a jar and I could enjoy them rather than them being shut in the cupboard in a box. Looking forward to popping in more.
