Felt Frenzy

Maybe it's the time of year but I'm overcome with felt fever. Everywhere I turn I see delicious things made out of felt and I want to play & create some too. I'm so inspired by pieces like these items pictured above and below from Anthropologie, as well as the other places below. They inspire me to want to sit and play with felt and thread and create whimsy. I imagine I could get lost for hours in all that fuzz. As I make my Christmas shopping list for Sweet Hubby, I'm wondering if there are any good books out there on creating whimsical, crafty, cottagey things out of felt. I'm also wondering where you buy the good felt and not that stuff that sells for a quarter at the craft store. Please help my inner child's dreams come true and point me in the right direction. 1. I've also wondered that about the felt...all I see are those little rectangles 5 for $1.00 or the big rolls in the fabric departments...
Post it when you find out :)

Also, I love those ornaments from Anthropologie, I was just eyeing those earlier today.

  4. I'm wondering the same thing! I just bought some from a coop from United Notions, I think it was National Felt or something that they carry. I can't wait to see how it is in person. I lucked out when hubby and I went to Gatlinburg and found fat quarters of it for $1.75 a piece, but now I'm kicking myself I didn't buy more of course. On googling, I did find this: http://www.achildsdream.com/handwork_supplies
    /felting_crafts/holland_wool_felt.htm

    and this:

    store.cgi?product=Wool_and_Wool_Felt&productid=feltassortblue&mult=Blues

    Happy searching lol.

  5. Jen, you can by felted wool at Quilts Plus......it's not cheap, but worth the price if you want real wool(hand dyed).
OR you can make your own felted wool with 100% wool fabric

  12. I have been feeling the same way lately with all the beautiful felt projects I have been seeing and I have just recently found all the Japanese books that are so popular with everyone. If you have a Joanns fabric store around your area I saw some wool felt there it was around 7 dollars a yard (I think) but they didn't have many colors.

  21. Wow, thanks for putting my work in such stellar company. I'm so flattered. Martha has good sources for felt (check her site) and I also think that Magic Cabin is a place to look. I use felt from Marcus Brothers which is available in many quality fabric stores. Love their small piece bundles. And you can always make your own, my all-time favorite! Old wool clothes and sweaters, in the hot wash, then dryer. Easy to do- always fun! xoC

  24. Cute! I know what you mean about being bit with the felting bug! I've found that felt with a high percentage of wool is your best bet (80-100%). It's more expensive, but I think it's worth it. You can get it by the yard at Jo-Ann's or through specialty stores. Can't wait to see what you make!
