To Theme or not to Theme

Today, for some strange reason, I was struck by the number of bird & bird related items that I have in my home. I'll be honest with you. I found it a bit disturbing. I wasn't even aware that this had happened. I didn't make a conscious decision to surround myself with them. I love birds but I'm clearly tottering on the edge of an unintended collection. I'm going to have to send some of them packing. Either to the garage sale pile or to this place.

For your entertainment purposes here is a sample of what I've surrounded myself with. For those of you who love a good theme, go ahead & envy me. The rest of you feel free to laugh.
I'm not even going to show you the roosters that I've already made the commitment to get rid of.

I'm just saying, if you like things with feathers, you may want to come to my upcoming garage sale, but come early. I think these things will just fly out of here.

So, I don't know if it's a life stage thing or what but I'm feeling weighed down by stuff. I feel the need to pare down what I own to things that a)have special meaning b)are beautiful c)are useful and d) I love. I feel lighter already.

  7. I have a nest collection/addiction but it is on purpose and I think authentic to who I am. Of course I don't buy everything that has a nest on it - I try to be somewhat selective, but I am a sucker for lots of nest-y things. If you just feel the need to purge you can send the pillow and plate my way...ya know, if you need to. Lol.

  8. I've been told that 3 of anything makes a collection...so low and behold, a collection it is! I do think that it's great to stop and try to identify the most special pieces to savor...so you're surrounded by what you are really passionate about. Good luck with garage sale prep.

  15. I love your birdie theme. Classy and cottagy at once.
I understand the need to pare down possessions. I was making a similar attempt before spring fever hit. There is just too much stuff in our home. Maybe in our lives, too.

Have fun with your garage sale prep.

  20. While I'm not nearly as organized about my junk, I do have places where I stash stuff that I don't want to use at the moment...but don't want to give away or sell either. Of course, sometimes I completely forget where I stashed the stuff....hate when I do that! You will have so many lovely items for your garage sale. Good luck, Jen.

  28. I have a few birds myself. I also have that print with the egg. Love it.
I was feeling the same way about my kitchen with roosters. I ended up getting rid of a couple.....but I suppose as long as we like what we're doing.....who cares what someone else may think right. We live there.

  29. I have been on a "get rid of it" rampage. Needing a change, too much "stuff" or boredom... not sure, but Goodwill will be pleased with my bags and bags I am sending there way.

  30. How Peaceful! I love your vignette.

  31. I also asked myself why it is that I find bird related things so attractive. I think they represent freedom, and maybe productivity. I mean building a nest can't be easy, but what a sense of accomplishment a little birdy must get!
