Sisterhood of the Travelling Glitter

I've been having a hard time writing about what this experience has meant to me in a few short paragraphs so as not to bore you with too many words. I'm afraid I've failed. This post is the first of many I'm afraid. If you are looking for decorating and other domestic exploits you might want to check back next week!

For a girl whose life revolves around her family, this kind of trip was a first for me. Taking 4 days to do something just for me was unimaginable. I will tell you that it didn't come without moments of guilt and doubt but it was the single best thing I've ever done just for me. I said several times this past week that I would be able to look back and see my life as before Silver Bella and after Silver Bella. That couldn't be more true. I've come home to this life a different person, completely comfortable with who I am, more confident, happier and more fulfilled than I've ever been.
I met some of the most wonderful women while I was away, my buddy Cammy, our wonderful sidekick Kelli (start a blog girl!), Julia, Melissa, Karen, Molly, Tiffany, Karlene and many, many others. Wonderful, gorgeous, supportive, encouraging, generous women. It was such an incredible sisterhood built on laughter, respect and pure creativity. Lots of creativity. The teachers were incredible and so down to earth. I was totally starstruck & proud to be a part of it.
The highlight for me was finally meeting Cammy in person. It was so great to finally meet my best friend. Y'all, she's amazing. I just adore her. Most people mistook us for life-long friends or sisters. We feel like both. It took me 37 years to find her and I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. We already have plans to take our families on vacation together this summer and to visit each other for a long weekend this year. It's hard to be 9 1/2 hours away from her but I'm guessing if we lived closer neither of us would ever get anything done. Well, anything that didn't involve glitter.

We laughed, we cried, some of us snorted. We ordered pizza in the middle of the night, went down to the ballroom in our jammies at close to 11:30 at night, drank too much wine, some of us wore it splattered on our jammies, shared secrets, dreams and fears. It was amazing and I will always remember our time together Cammy and Kelli!

I wish for all of you a best friend, the dearest sort you can imagine. I wish for you the chance to take some time to do something completely selfish and all the better if it's with some girlfriends. I wish for you the courage to really embrace who you are and to start living your life in a way that honors that. I wish for you the confidence to snort with laughter in public and not be embarrassed.

  8. Shame on you - you made me cry. I am so excited for you and look forward to many blogs about Silver Bella - I promise, we wont be bored of hearing about it...ever! You and Cammy both have blogs that inspire me daily. Of course you are friends. I agree, having a friend that you can be yourself with is a gift. I am blessed with that type of friendship and it is life changing. Cheers to girls and glitter.

  10. Jen, I was 35 when I met the best friend of my life. Friends come to you in all stages of your life...but best ones don't come too often. Nurture this new friendship...and be glad she already lives 9 hours away. My best friend moved across the country after 3 years of constant companionship. Whew! That was tough.

I felt a kindred spirit with you right away...when I heard some very low comments under your breath. I was feeling the exact thing! Wish we had had more workshops together. No...we might have gotten in trouble.

I need Kelly's info so I can send her some pictures....could you email me any info on her?

  13. Jen, You always have a way with words. You express how you feel so well. You put into words many of the things I am feeling as well. The thing is, is that I have a hard time finding the words. Thank you for including me.
I will treasure this time we had--always.
