Filled with Love

These last few days before school begins are being filled with some of the projects on Emma's Summer To Do List. One of the things on that list was to do some sewing on her new mini Janome sewing machine.

We decided the first project should be a drawstring bag to hold her beloved blankies. This girl loves her blankies. She has had them since the day she was born. They are hospital issue and while she started out with 4 of them, we are down to 3 with her favorite one really nothing more than a pile of threads and lint at this point. We thought this would be a nice way to preserve them for as long as possible. Sometimes I wonder if she will take them with her on her honeymoon.

Hard to say who's happier about this project. I'm happy to have a girl that loves doing the things that I enjoy. As for Emma? She's happy that she has this bag to drag all over the house without risk of damaging her lovies.

  1. very sweet! I wish I had learned to sew as a kid, then I would know how today!! My mom, who is a wonderful seamstress, tried to make me want to learn and all I wanted to do was play softball!!

  2. I love that!!! Don't you just love that your daughter has some of the same interests as mom? I know I am! We made adorable aprons last week and my 7 1/2 year old learned how to sew and operate my machine! I hope she wants to keep it up as she gets older! Good luck with the rest of the projects on her list!

  8. That is so cute! I love the fabric you guys chose. When I was young I loved to sew on my mom's machine all the time. I would make myself all kinds of random clothes, like shorts. I would just cut them out like they look and sew them togethe, no pattern. Luckily I was built like a stick bug so they fit, even though my friend laughed at them (her mom was a professional quilter ;)

  10. How sensible! My three never had blankies, but a friend's daughter did and does. The bag to keep them in is a good idea.
And, if she did get married with one, that's just the same as having a teddy on the bed, really, isn't it?

  17. Hummm, glad to know I'm not alone in the hubby department there. He is a very good boy though, treats me good. I don't know where the bike came from, a local bike shop here in Walla Walla WA, but the bike is a Gary Fisher I believe.

  18. That's awesome. My mom taught me how to sew as a kid & still love to sew. Sewing seemed like such a natural and normal thing to learn that I'm always surprised when I hear of a friend who has never sewn before.
