Embroidery Favorites

I've been pulled to embroidery since last year's welcome night at Silver Bella. There was something about sitting in a room with all of these other women and doing hand stitching and talking and laughing. It was bonding. It gave me a new understanding of quilting bees. So ever since then I just want to sit and stitch although sadly, I've had very little time for it this last year.

In working on my swaps for Silver Bella I find myself pulling out the needle and thread and referencing these books a lot. And while I love the styles in the top 2 books, this children's book has the hands down, best explanation of how to actually do the stitches. I've always suspected I had a childlike way of thinking and I'm pretty sure this confirms it.

If you have an embroidery, or any craft book that you love, I'd love to know what it is.

  1. I love Amy Butlers Stitches for Little Ones..& truth be told half the reason I bought it was for the sweet, fresh looking pictures :)

  4. I enjoy embroidery as well...when I get the time. I think that I'm going to look into the book that you've suggested...all of the "grown up" instruction books make the stitches sound impossible!

  5. My grandma did this and I played around with it when I was younger...but that Doodle Stitching book is so cute that I might have to give it another try. I wish I was taking something at SB that would get me stitching!

  6. will have to look for that book. I use to embroidery all the time..and not cannot remember except for the simplest stiches. Isn't it funny how things that used to be 'popular' always come back!

  10. I've been embroidering, and loving every minute of it. Right now, I'm just using the old 'Martha somethingoranother' iron on transfers I found at Hobby Lobby. They are the cutest little chicken day of the week towels. I also bought a transfer that says 'Goodnight' and 'Good Morning' I thought I would do them on white pillowcases in red floss.

I remember being about 12 or 13 and going to the library and getting "The Encyclopedia of Embroidery" and sitting and doing every stitch. I sure wish I still had that cloth with all of those stitches.
