It's All White Now Momma

Since food and cooking are so much on my mind right now, it probably won't surprise you to know that kitchens are also on my mind.

My dream kitchen is white. It has been for as long as I can remember. I like a kitchen that's a little quirky, not too polished and a little unfitted. Kind of like me.
I finally have a white kitchen. Sadly it dates back to the 1950's and there is nothing dreamy about it.

Oddly enough with all of it's faults, no gas range, no dishwasher, 2 ft of counter space and very few cabinets, I'm still enjoying cooking in the space. Sometimes we surprise ourselves.
All that time spent handwashing dishes gives me plenty of time to daydream about my dream kitchen.

There is sure to be open shelving, a unique island, clean lined white cabinets, subway tile, peeling and chippiness, texture and contrast, honed marble, gas range and a big farm sink.

Most of the things I've gotten in my life I've had to work hard and wait patiently for. This is no different.
I'll tell you a little secret. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I know I appreciate things more because of it. I have a feeling that when I finally get that dream kitchen I will never want to come out of it. I think that's what Sweet Hubby would call a win win.

  6. I think you and I are in the exact same predicament and want the exact same dream kitchen.... our house was built in '45 (I'm pretty sure) and has the old-school retro kitchen but it is soooo ugly. I dream of marble counters, shaker-style white cabinetry, crown moulding, white farmhouse sink, hardwood floors, brushed nickel hardware, old-school pendant lighting.... oh the list could go on and on and on....

  8. After 5 years, we are finally working on our new kitchen. We still have a ways to go, but it was definitely worth the wait! Unfortunately the farmhouse sink will have to wait for my next kitchen!

  11. hey I just saw you are reading the fixer upper. tell us what you think!
regarding this post: I always wanted the linoleum for my kitchen that looked like brick. I got it in the first yucky rental I had right when I got divorced.

  12. Your dream kitchen sounds perfect! My kitchen is a "galley" kitchen. It's so small that if anyone is in there besides me, I get a little crazy. I do alot of dreaming about the perfect kitchen also. Thanks so much for leaving me the Cast Iron Skillet recipe. I can't wait to try it. Sounds delicious and easy.

  15. I have always been a "color" girl, but lately I have been falling more and more in love with white. I just painted the kitchen from red to pale blue (daughter's idea!) but the walls are small and the next thing getting a coat of paint is the cabinets. I garauntee they will be bright white! I love the checkerboard floor in the last photo too.
