The Cottage Nest Makery

In my last post when I mentioned that I was going to make a dream or two come true this year, I already had one in the works. I'm going to start teaching monthly classes at one of my favorite shops on Main Street in The Village, fivethirty resale.

A little close up.

This shop is very special to me. The owner, Erica and I hit it off right away. I mean, look, she has an aqua front door too! Actually my entire family loves her and her shop. Maddie even works there. Emma dreams of working there but until that time she satisfies herself with buying an endless number of antique keys from there. My Sweet Man happily shops there for gifts for me because he knows he can't go wrong.

Here's a peek of some of the goodness you'll find at the shop. Right now I see about 10 things I need to go back and buy.

I'll be honest, there are a few really cool things I'm not showing you because I don't want you to buy them before I get a chance. I'm having serious coveting issues right now. Darned budget!

It's been a long time since I had a job outside of the home. Well, that's not exactly true. I have another job that I haven't told you about yet. I help write and edit our Village Newsletter. However, I don't get paid for that job, except in satisfaction and appreciation, which are both lovely but don't go far towards helping me buy a new sofa.

This is my new office. I like it way better than the last one I had which was in a Big 5 accounting firm. I still have nightmares about that one. Not even kidding.

I'm really excited about this new adventure. I feel like I'm training for having my own shop on Main Street some day.

If you are local and would like to come spend a morning crafting with me or want more information on classes you can email me at thecottagenest@gmail.com. If you want more information on Erica or her store you can look here or here.

  1. I love that you are teaching a class. I am retiring in June and thinking of teaching bookmaking, but I have a friend who is in an antique co-op and it might be fun to teach a craft there.

I am surprised there are only 10 things you covet in that shop. So much eye candy.

  11. OH boy could I get in trouble in that shop. So many awesome goodies I think I can't live without. Where I'd put them who knows but I'd work on it. I had to leave behind and sell alot of my goodies when we moved from KY.
Have a hard time finding good "stuff" where we live now, (west of Grand Junction, CO). There aren't that many antique stores or shops like you showed.
I don't know where you are but I'd love to be able to shop there and attend your class. I'll be looking thru your posts and I've just subscribed. Look forward to seeing what you do and what you're up to.

I love that shop -- I also see about 10 (or more!) things that I could easily snap up. Your village seems like it is full of little gems.

  20. So happy for you! I live in Florida and saw a story about a family that was going to take a year off and travel to Europe.
They live in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. They spent 6 weeks in Paris. You can check out their blog domnickfamily.wordpress.com
I thought you might be interested...
I am going to check it out too.

  21. Awe. wish I lived a bit closer Jen to come! Cute shop! More and more I am envious of your quaint town, my city is a disaster and pretty much over-run with Notre Dame this and that. Whats ironic is is that aside from directly around the university the city is falling apart horribly. A job much to big for our new mayor and one which should have been examined years ago with a good plan. At least the town over is getting better stores now if only a Ikea!! Lori

  32. Right up your alley! Take it from a worker bee... It's way easier to be a worker bee than to be the owner. For years I dreamed of owning a little shop but now that I work in one, I realize its a fun but tough gig. You will be a great asset to that store. Xoxo, julia
