Friday Favorites- The Mother's Day Collection

Mother's Day can be so wrought with expectation and disappointment. I hope that you Moms are celebrated and cherished on Sunday. If not, you have my permission to celebrate yourself on Monday and treat yourself to something nice.

I love this ring dish so much that I had to get one for each of my girls too. Find it at anthro for only $12!

Hoping my breakfast includes a favorite beverage in this glass, also from Anthro and also $12.

This wonderful book by the uber talented Elyse Major who happens to be one of my favorite blogger girls of all time! This book is so charming and fun and fresh and the projects are so approachable. I'm planning on doing several with Emma this summer as part of our weekly studio time. I can't wait to dive in!

This has become one of my favorite shows. It always makes me think of the movie Doc Hollywood from back in the day. I adore any book, movie or tv show about a small southern town with quirky characters. Hooks me every time. As a matter of fact, if you can recommend any to me, that would be like your little Mother's Day gift to me. While we're on the subject...

This book! The book, not the movie. The movie is good, but the book is amazing! One of those books that stays with you your whole life. I have it on my nightstand and I'm going to reread it this summer. I can hardly wait to wake up early while Emma is still sleeping and sneak out on the back porch for some quiet time with these old friends.

That's it. Celebrate your Mommas if you've still got them! Treat them right and tell them how much they mean to you. It's a privilege to have the opportunity!

  2. I really agree with you about the book. Have you read Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man? I'd put it in the same category. Love all of her books!

    Happy Mother's Day.

  3. Happy Mothers Day, Jen. Loving your choices from Anthro, I have to order mine online, as French Lick is far removed from civilization and Anthro shops! Thank goodness, small towns are my choice. Fannie Flagg is marvelous author, especially with this one.
    Enjoy your weekend, Hedy

  4. Happy Mother's Day! I re-watched Fried Green Tomatoes the other day and spent a week making Southern Food....I love that there are recipes at the back of the book and she made a cookbook as well. :) I had planned on re-reading that book this summer as well.

  6. Happy M-Day to you! I know your girls are lucky to have such a wonderful Mom--I hope they know it too! I will give my Mom an extra hug on Sunday as a reminder of how grateful I am she is still part of our lives--sending hugs and happy memories to you as well. Enjoy and relax!

  7. What I hate about Mother's day is the commercialism and expectations of giving gifts. Its so crass. My Mom never accepted a gift and always thought Mother's Day was low class. She always said she was lucky her kids celebrated her every day not just one day a year. I am so glad I did as she is gone, in a coma on Mother's Day and gone soon thereafter. Time is more important then gifts! Give of your time.

  10. looking forward to a low key mother's day that involves my girls begging to do housework, cooking and pretending to be dying to spend time working in the gardens with me :).

on southern books...have you read any of sarah addison allen's novels? very quirky southern, with a bit of magical realism thrown in to add to the mystic. they are a quick, non-brain taxing read, but i LOVE them all. a really hilarious, little off-color, nonfiction read is celia rivenbark's "we're just like you, only prettier: confessions of a tarnished southern belle." i think you would have had to live in the south to fully appreciate it, but, it made me laugh until i cried!

have a happy mother's day! your post was a great pre-gift.

  12. I also love Hart of Dixie! I tell my friends it's the new Gilmore Girls for me. =) Gilmore Girls had the best quirky town of all time and I never get tired of it. I am a big reader and my goal this summer is to read the books that I accidentally saw the movie first...including Fried Green Tomatoes and The Secret Life of Bees. I have a hard and fast rule that the book must be read first, but sometimes one slips by me. Happy Spring!
