Trophy Wife

This happened this week. I prefer animal trophies of the man made variety. I'm not sure why I couldn't be like a normal person and just hang it on the wall. I'm not sure why I felt the need to take a month to hunt down the perfect oval frame, take 2 days painting layers of blue and teal and back it with fabric to match. I do know that I'm glad I have a husband that not only gets me, but encourages me and then loves the results. How did I get so lucky?

Our house isn't quite like anyone else's and I love that! I love that our home expresses the people that live here, that it is filled with color, creativity and happiness and that you know it as soon as you walk in.

There is something about this house and this season of life that makes me feel free to follow my heart and I continue to be amazed at how the results make my heart happy. I find that in the last few years I have really learned to trust my instincts and to not make decisions based on what other people think. It has changed every aspect of my life, even allowing me to do crazy home projects that will have people questioning my sanity.

  3. I love it! I found a vintage antler mount this weekend and BOUGHT it. Haven't had the courage to hang it yet but I am so loving the look these days. I love your creativity and what you did with yours - that fabric is adorable. And for a girls that admittedly doesn't like to paint - your frame looks marvelous darling!

As for your home - the best ones are the unique and personal ones, that's what I always say!

  4. I think it looks great! I have come to realize that I would much rather have the quirky, thrifted creations that my home is known for, than brand new everything. I recently purchased my first set of matching dining room chairs, I got annoyed with some craigs list chairs that were comng apart, (sheesh, I paid $10 a piece for them!) and ordered a set of brand spanking new ones. They are pretty and comfortable, but I find I am vexed that I now feel like I can't paint them any color I want on a whim. Lol! Being able to create the home of your dreams...priceless. Your home is gorgeous and unique, and I love it!

  5. Love it, Jen! It's that sweet town you live in that gives you that feeling of being completely accepted and loved just as you are-and that means you can be free to be just you-quirks and all!'>)

Love your cute little deer. xo Diana

  6. Your are totally sane and gloriously in touch with who you are and you hanging a man made trophy, in a blue painted thrifty frame, backed in adorable fabric, makes perfect sense. Love the season, love the results.

  8. I think your home shows your creative side, that's your own. Thanks for reminding us that it is fine to
do what we want and not let our choices be based on what others will think. I am in the process of
helping a friend choose colors for painting her living space. I am not on board with her color choices but I keep telling her it is her house and she can do whatever she wants. I guess I am not a warm color lover. I have a love for greens, and sea glass colors like pale aqua. I like your color choices in your home.

  9. There are a lot of homes in magazines and blogland that look the same. I have to check to see which blog I am on because I think I just saw the same room, fall porch, living room vignette, etc.

I don't get cookie cutter when I read your blog and I love that. You are lucky your husband gets you. After 42 years, Steve still shakes his head at some of my decorating ideas, but he loves that like yours, our house is definitely not cookie cutter.

  11. I love it and think it looks perfect on the background you created for it...much more exciting than just putting it on the wall itself. I've come to the point too, that I am just decorating for me and my family, doing whatever makes me/us happy even if it doesn't necessarily make sense. I'm finding so much inspiration from Scandinavian blogs/decor with their white interiors and pops of color! I was thinking that those antlers need a little fun pom pom garland... ;)
