Kitchen Improvements

I seem to be spending a lot of time in my kitchen lately. With this cold weather, it seems natural to want to cook and bake more. This serves a dual purpose since our kitchen doesn't seem to be insulated and our stove puts out a lot of heat.

I've made some additions in here that are making me smile. I'm so in love with this big calendar and I look forward to flipping the page every month. This spot has been empty for a year waiting for just the right thing. Patience pays again. And double score because I got in on super crazy sale because I had been eye balling it for months but could not pull the trigger at full price. I am just not a full price kind of girl.

The big K was a Christmas present from my guy. Before you get all filled with husband envy, he was directed by Maddie to buy it from the shop she works in. She is very good at gift direction. He is very good at taking gift direction. Win. Win.

I have what might seem to many, as a crazy number of measuring spoons. I actually have another set in a drawer. I really regularly have need for 3 sets. I'm pretty sure that means I'm doing too much of that cooking and baking I mentioned earlier. I didn't really need a 4th set but my hubby picked the newest set out all by himself and who was I to turn them down? Then I thought it seemed kind of criminal to have all those pretty spoons in a drawer so I thought hooks to display them seemed like just the right thing.

Sometimes just moving things around makes them feel new and I've been doing a bit of that this winter too. I'll be honest, I don't love my kitchen. Well, I love it from the waist up. I try really hard to focus on those parts but sometimes I get so bogged down in the 30 year old icky tile counters, even older cabinets that aren't even usable, linoleum floors and appliances that need to be replaced, that I need a little reminder to look up and smile. It may not be my dream kitchen yet, but it has sure come a long way.

  10. jen... i think your kitchen is so cute and inviting... when we moved into our house i thought the kitchen was fine... it's the size of a cubicle... haha... and yet it still seems to be the room that people end up in when we have a party or friends over... i can relate to your love from the waist up... our countertops are a not so attractive laminate and so are the cabinets... she's in desperate need of a makeover but i try to cozy it up a little bit at a time... yours is coming along beautifully and i love all of the special touches you've added : )

  11. I love all the cheerful touches in your kitchen! And now I think I need another set of measuring spoons! But cute ones like ours!
I totally understand how you feel about the bottom half of your kitchen. We lived in our home 7 years before we tackled our kitchen remodel. But you sure are making it pretty with what you have! Happy baking!

  13. I have easily 3 sets of measuring spoons and often think I need another set (or two). If you cook and bake on a regular basis, it's easy to find that all your sets are in the dishwasher! I think your kitchen is beautiful. I know we all see the things we want to change about our homes, I do the same thing. But what we see when you share your kitchen is a pretty family home that you have filled with lovely things.

  21. There is so much to love about your kitchen Jen. I need more measuring spoons, you have given me permission to own more than one set, and anyway, the teaspoon measure has gone missing! I spy the Ikea milkshake cups, got some of those too. Our kitchen is great since we renovated it about 5 years ago. It's my poor old bathroom that is really needing some love. Oh, and I love the big calendar too!!! happy week ahead for you. Jane x

  26. These are all great! When we first got married, my husband and I put our microwave on top of the fridge in our tiny apartment kitchen (with a small-ish regular-sized refrigerator). Fortunately, we are both tall and it worked for us, but when we had shorter company over, they always laughed Kitchens Tameside.
