And a Creative New Year

Two weeks ago I celebrated my 44th birthday. You know how your birthday and the new year both make you feel like making fresh starts? Or is that just me? Well, imagine if those two occasions were stacked on top of each other how deeply, some might say manically, you would feel that. That's me right now. I don't have a huge list of resolutions but a single idea that is shaping my days. Do something creative every day.

You combine that idea with the deep urge to organize that always comes this time of year and you might end up with an organized stationary box that you get really excited to look at.

Or a new planner with a pretty accent that makes you smile multiple times every day. For me the idea isn't to create masterpieces every day, it's to bring loveliness to all the corners of my life. It doesn't matter how big or small. It doesn't matter if it's perfect. It only matters that I'm following my heart and feeding my soul. I find that the more creative I am, the more inspired I become.

Right now my head is so full of  ideas and inspiration I can hardly shut it down in the evening to relax. At night, I close my eyes and see a parade of colors, patterns and shapes. Can this be normal? Probably not your average person's idea of normal. Is it normal to wake up in the morning with a burning need to make a loopy flower for your deer head? Well, we don't really need to answer that.

All I know is I wake up and I can't wait to start my day and to see what will happen. I can barely tear myself out of the studio and my heart and soul are so happy that I get to live this life, in this house and that I am so well loved by my people. I'm so excited to see what life has in store for me this year. I just know it will be my best year yet.

  2. You had me laughing at loopy. Ha! I love waking up early and having the whole day ahead of me to do with as I please. There's always some type of creativity going on (not necessarily organizing :), but tomorrow it is back to school and my creativity is about to take a plunge. And I will miss my morning walks. But come June, I will be a free bird and I can't wait! Enjoy creating! Best wishes, Tammy

  4. Hi Jen! Happy New Year!! I do hope that this year brings you lots of joy and creative happiness, too.
With the delightful room you have, I am sure it is a happy place to be inspired in. Right now I am working
on remodeling our two bedrooms - and I will finally have my creative space. Being an empty nester has
    allowed me to do this.

    Hugs!

  5. I have felt the same way as of late Jen. I'm just trying to take a deep breath so I don't overwhelm myself. Some how I will get to all those ideas racing around in my head. : )

  7. I have a sign written on my grandmother's school slate that reads "Do something CREATIVE every day". I have to remind myself that creativity is not just making things. A simple flower in a vase, a little extra time with the table setting at dinner and a new vignette in the living room are also creativity.

I can understand why you enjoy time in your creative space. HAPPY CREATING!

  11. I love this! Especially your comment about sometimes being unable to sleep at night because you can't turn off your creative juices! My passion is soap making and sometimes I lie in bed at night with my wheels spinning all things soap. And by sometimes, I mean all the time :)

Also, 44? I sincerely do not believe it. We're both still 32. At the latest.

  18. Yes!! You are perfectly normal in the most creative way! I feel exactly the same way. I have the "need to create" and I'm just not happy if there isn't a little bit of creative time each and every day. Your studio is a dream! Enjoy the new year!
