I'm Dreaming of a White Kitchen

January seems to call for fresh and clean. I noticed the other day that the new Country Living cover is dedicated to decorating with white.

I have been drawn to white for a long time and although I love it all through the house, I have always longed for a white kitchen.

In my opinion the ideal white kitchen needs pops of color and texture to keep it from feeling  too cold and sterile.

I actually have a white kitchen now after waiting my whole life. Exciting right? Actually, no. More hideous than exciting.
But I know that will change one day soon and I will appreciate it that much more after having lived with my current kitchen.

In our next house I will finally get my dream kitchen. The Big Guy has given his word. He knows I've been patient with one builder beige kitchen after another.

Plus, he's a really smart guy. He knows that the happier I am in my kitchen the more I'll cook. And make no mistake about it, the Big Guy likes to eat.

For now I will sit here (semi) patiently waiting, dreaming and planning for the day when all my kitchen dreams come true.

  2. A white kitchen would be gorgeous! I love white because it looks clean and bright and it's easy to add (and change)accent colors with accessories, dish towels, etc.

  5. Jenn, I love this post. The photos are dreamy and that last one to die for. I had a white kitchen about 12 years ago and I loved it but it wasn’t my kitchen. I have a neutral tone kitchen now and I too long for a white kitchen but “my kitchen” this time. These pics would be ok too :)

  6. I, for one, have wonderful memories of your kitchen because it produced that dreamy bleu cheese soup and the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Ever. I can only imagine what you'll be capable of in your dream kitchen.
My only kitchen regret was the last minute decision to pass on the farm sink. We were feeling the budget crunch and that was a big ticket item. I so wish we'd taken the plunge.
Keep dreaming, JJ! It won't be long.

  7. I feel your pain! We just bought a house and the only thing they had redone was the kitchen...it's dark cherry cabinets and a beige granite---it's not horrible but it certainly isn't white...My hubby's favorite saying is: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." so now I'm stuck with a dark unbroken kitchen :( haha! I hope you get your dream kitchen very soon and then I'll vicariously live through you!!!

  15. I think I'm going to have to remind my husband about that--the happier I am in the kitchen, the more I'll cook! I love white kitchens too. It's not going to happen in this kitchen, but maybe soon I'll get things moved around so I can work in there!

  16. Such gorgeous inspiration! I'm just now starting in on my Country Living. My mom is remodeling a little tiny cottage and her kitchen will be white with a black counter. I love that! I can't imagine a kitchen that isn't white.

  17. I think the ho-hums in life are just there to prepare us for the fabulous to come. You're teaching me to believe I can achieve...I've mapped out my three year plan and now measure my purchases by its importance. It's never too late to live the dream. Can't wait to see what this year has in store for you.

  21. Having had a white kitchen(white laminate cabinets, white laminate countertops, white appliances), I'm happy not having one anymore. Of course, mine was the icky kind, not beautiful like those. I love to look at those white kitchens, but really love that I know myself well enough to have the kitchen that works for me and my messy self and in this house. I'm excited for you to get just the kitchen you're dreaming of!

  22. A girls gotta have dreams, right? I like my cozy little house. But one thing I do wish was bigger is the tiny kitchen I have.

  23. One of the reasons we chose our house was because of the beautiful white cabinetry in the kitchen. But alas, there is the dark bluish granite ~ which isn't bad mind you ~ just not the white carrera marble that I dreamt of...can't justify spending the money to change it...and if my kitchen were perfect, would I really be that much happier?
    maybe:)

  24. I say... let's all just get out our buckets of paint and just do it!
I love white as a backdrop to any decor. It's just pretty, easy on the eye, elegant, simple, and very orderly looking. I have been told by my family that I have an addiction to painting everything white. I think they could be right but I like my 'addiction'. :)
    new years blessings to you!

  25. Oh, wow! Those are lovely inspiration photos!! White kitchens are so dreamy.
I loved Country Living magazine this month. I wish all of my magazines were dedicated to white every month. As long as I can remember, I have loved white. As a kid, I remember feeling sorry for white, because nobody ever said it was their favorite color, but I think it is so pretty. :)
Hope you have a wonderful day!
    Beth.

  26. white kitchens are so dreamy. i'm probably better off hoping for a grey kitchen, though, so as to camouflage the grime. ;)

  30. Hi Jen,
When we lived in our new home 10 years ago, I had a huge kitchen and I admit it was nice. It wasn't white, it was your typical oak cabinets, builder cream countertops...anyway getting to my point, although my kitchen now is very small, I have my white cabinets which I love and we put in subway tile and a farmhouse sink. It may be small but I love it. I am with you though, I love a bright white space.

  32. I LOOOOOVE a white kitchen too. One of my biggest regrets is not painting my builder maple kitchen cabinets into Divine Design kitchen cabs. Now we have moved and it is all too late. Next time!

P.S. Can't believe I have been reading your blog forever and am now just following you! Whats up with that?

  33. I must adnit I'am such a fan of white kitchens! Loove the look of white cabinets. There is something so simple and refreshing about them! Every house I have lived in the cabinets have gotten a coat of white paint! I may have a problem with wanting to paint all wood:) Traci
