Ten and Counting- A Giveaway
I have been struggling to find time to get over here to talk to you guys. There are so many reasons why, all good, that it has taken me so long and I look forward to coming back to share with you when I have more time because, honestly I'm just bursting at the seems with things to tell you about but...first things first!
You guys! A week ago this past Sunday was the 10th anniversary of the very first day that I pushed Publish on this little corner of the internet. This place has been such a blessing to me. Ten years ago my baby was starting kindergarten and I was feeling a little out of sorts about who I was and what I should be doing. I can't believe what an adventure began that day.
The very first blog I ever heard about was my sweet friend Kim's blog Dear Daisy Cottage. Kim and I had known each other for a few years before she ever hit the publish button herself. It was one of many times she inspired me to step out of my comfort zone. She is like part mentor, part heroine to me. She represents all that is good and pure about blogging and social media. She is truly authentic. There is no hustle, no agenda, just pure heart, love and connection. I love her. That is what first drew me to blogging and what continues to draw me to blogging.
This internet home of mine has been so important to not just me, but to my family over the years. I can't imagine not having this space to record our memories. This past 10 years has brought it's share of heartache and happiness and many of you have been through a good portion of that with me. I never could have guessed ten years ago that I would end up where I am right now and who knows what the next ten will bring but I will be right here sharing it from my heart with all of you and I hope you might still be here reading it.
I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your kind comments and support and friendship. I have decided to have a giveaway as my way of saying thank you. I'd like to send you a box of coziness from my Cottage Nest to yours. I'll include some of my favorite things: an embroidered bag I made, Anthro mug, tea, Rifle Paper Co journal, washi tape, as well a little taste of my Village and whatever happy thing I find to pop in the box! There is nothing special you need to do to enter, just leave a comment with your email address and if you wanted to share with me, a favorite thing of yours from my blog, well, I wouldn't mind hearing it, but it is certainly not required. I really and truly blog for myself and my people but I so love having you here and hearing your thoughts. I will pick a random winner at 8am eastern time on Monday October 30, 2016.
I just couldn't let another day pass without popping in to celebrate with you. Now I'm off to enjoy the rest of my sacred day with this yummy start and lots of making on my mind! I hope your day is filled with loveliness!

Congratulations on 10 big years. What a true inspiration you are. Your blog gives me peace and tranquility. It reminds me that I too have to look at the things I love that are in my relationships, home and my town, actually all around me!!! They're everywhere, however we have to SEE them not ignore while we get all caught up in this big fast world. I hope you continue beyond another 10 years as this is good medicine.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your mindful thoughts and putting them in writing.
sallyrcorona@gmail.com
Happy blog birthday! It is my birthday too! I love your sweet little space, with it's bright cheery colors. So different from my home, but beautiful- a palette I would love to emulate. Your pictures let me dream and imagine! Here's to 10 more years of The Cottage Nest!
ReplyDeleteOh Jen! TEN years! I can't believe it! You are one of the first blogs I found and I was SMITTEN! Your way with words and your projects, big and small, were so inspiring to me. I can't believe I don't know your friend, Kim's blog---but I don't. I am going to head over there and check that out.
ReplyDeleteI have been inspired by your move to The Village and how life altering that was/is for you. You have made me long for some of the simpler things in life-things I didn't even realize I was missing until I thought about it---a small bit of embroidery or a sweetly patterned floral fabric paired with an equally beautiful cup. So much...I have learned so much and I have cried with you over some sad moments and smiled through tears at some heartwarming moments. You have shared it all here.
I wish you ten more years of happy blogging and hope I live long enough to enjoy AT LEAST another 10 years of reading!!! xo Diana
I visit you because you are so truly authentic. I love the photos you choose to show also, and your style of writing. I just love your blog! Kim was and is a wonderful person and writer. I think hers was the first blog I started reading. Great gal!

Congratulations! I really enjoy the home town feel I get every time I read about your family, your home and your neighborhood. I have to confess I have looked it up on the map to see where you live and ponder if I could move there. Your color palette in your home is so calm and refreshing and I love how you celebrate special occasions in your family. You inspire me to simplify and take moments to just be. Thanks so much and I look forward to your continued journey and celebration of life.
ReplyDeleteLove reading your blog because it's like visiting a friend (I just haven't met yet). We are both Hoosiers, love to vacation in Michigan, love our small communities, appreciate peaceful surroundings ...and are the parents of teens. Your decor and projects are inspiring, and I look forward to every post. :) lorrimalone@twc.com
ReplyDeleteCongrats Jen! I was just thinking the other day, that for a lot of us it has been many years since we started our blogs. I am happy that you are still going at it, I love to read about your children and your decorating. That is what drew me to you in the beginning. I fell in love with all your aqua and gorgeous and different crafts. I think if I had to name one thing that stands out to me in your blog, is your determination and hard work to find the house and life of your dreams. You did it! And not very many do ( I did it too!)and I think that is why I feel like we are kindred spirits. :) Kit

I discovered your blog this summer through Instagram. I ended paging back through four years of entries mostly to watch your house transform in reverse. I moved last fall and it's been a struggle because I sold the house I could've lived in forever for one toward which I feel mostly indifferent. (I never felt indifferent toward the old house--not for a second--and part of me still can't believe I don't live there and no longer own it.) But reading your blog and watching you enjoy your house really illustrated for me the choice I've been aware of everyday since moving: you gonna keep crying over this or just own the new house already? It was bizarre to me that reading some stranger's blog was making me feel better about something that no one else could help me with (even though many had tried). I'm really happy for you that you love where you live so much--I knew that feeling, and I hope you never have to trade it in for anything.
ReplyDeleteI've been a quiet reader for several years now and just want you to know that your quiet observations on the small and grand moments of life have meant a lot to me. Reading your blog centers me and inspires me to continue to work to make more time in my own life to value the moments that matter. Thanks for sharing your life with your readers and please know that you shine a light out into the world that means a great deal. Happy 10th anniversary!

ReplyDeletejeanbeans64@gmail.com
Happy Blogging Anniversary ~ I have followed you for appx. 5-6 years. . . from living in the burbs to the quest for a home in "the village". I absolutely love that you keep things real ~ that it's all included, the good, the bad, and the "ugly" (although, not so sure I've ever seen "ugly" unless you're talking your kitchen update?) ~ you are a true inspiration to every person that wants a little bit more creativity, needs a gentle reassurance that beauty is all around us and that a bit of grace goes a long way. You've also reinforced the need for taking care of ourselves, and while we (I) may try, I think a friendly reminder now & again is always welcome. Thank YOU for doing YOU so very well and for giving the rest of us, the pleasure of peeking into your world.
ReplyDeleteHappy 10 years Jen! I have probably been following you most of this time...I would have found you from another blogs "favorite" list, and I can't remember who, but I'm so happy I did as you have become a favorite of mine! When I try to pinpoint the thing I love the most about your blog I think it would be reading about your journey to this place you are. And not just the dream come true (beautiful) house in the dream come true (charming) village, but the place of contentment and gratefulness you are in. Despite what you've gone through with your mom, your dad, and other things you have shared, you have found "home" in every sense of the word. Yay God! Thanks for sharing your life and your wonderful pictures!! (shellymarie61@gmail.com

When I think about years gone by, my gauge is the age my girls were at that time. 10 years ago feels like a different world all together filled with toddler tantrums and our first school runs, at the same time it feels as though it's gone in a flash and we are now going through the teenage tantrums phase. Your younger daughter and my elder are the same age and looking back at your early photos takes me back to these years too and that's the beauty of your journey, capturing all these moments as they unfold and not forgetting all the little things which make our lives what they are. To have the passion to see a blog through for 10 years is no small achievement, I admire your dedication.
ReplyDeleteI am a keen crafter myself and love seeing your makes and beautiful craft room. You give yourself time to be you, which makes you better at being who others need you to be, we should all embrace this.
Thank you for sharing.
