I've been trying a lot of new recipes lately. This one is a favorite. I can't tell you how many times I've made this bread in the last few weeks. I'm now on a mission to buy my neighbor's love with it because I just can't stop making it and I don't need to eat several loaves a week. It's so easy you will almost feel guilty when you go on about making homemade bread.
Crusty Bread
3 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon yeast
1 1/2 cups warm (not hot) water
In
a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt and yeast. Add water
and mix until a shaggy mixture forms. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and
set aside for 12 - 18 hours. Overnight works great. Heat oven to 450
degrees. When the oven has reached 450 degrees place a cast iron pot
with a lid in the oven and heat the pot for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, pour
dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover with
plastic wrap and let set while the pot is heating. Remove hot pot from
the oven and drop in the dough. Cover and return to oven for 30
minutes. After 30 minutes remove the lid and bake an additional 15
minutes. Remove bread from oven and place on a cooling rack to cool.
Looks pretty easy...and scrumptuous!!
ReplyDeleteI did a "no knead" bread a few weeks ago, and I was surprised at how easy it was...this one also seems to be "no knead"...I have a black iron fry pan, but no lid :o(
what to do in that case???
Cheers!
Have a great day...
Linda :o)
Ohhhh...does this sound easy and good! Do you leave it setting out for the 12-18 hours or do you refrigerate it? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLinda- maybe try putting foil over it? It's worth a shot. Let me know if it works.
ReplyDeleteDiana- just leave it out. Mine has been out since about 8pm last night. If you were my neighbor I'd bring you the loaf I'm making today!
I am so making this TODAY!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks my dear for the inspiration!!

Mmmmm, easy and delicious, my favorite kind of recipe! I haven't tried to make yeast bread in ages, but this one looks so easy. I will put yeast on my shopping list this week! Thanks for sharing this. xx
ReplyDeleteOh ! That looks delish! And easy too. I'm adding some raisins and it'll be our breakfast tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteOH my!! The picture came up and I SWEAR I could smell it! Not sure what I will use for a pot in the oven but will figure it out and give it a try! YUM!
ReplyDeleteI love no knead bread! The only thing that I don't like about it is that once I've decided that I want it, I have to wait a day to have it!
ReplyDeleteGosh so simple, I can't wait to try it!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Sounds (and looks) delish! I wish I WAS your neighbor - I would gladly accept your bribes :)

Making bread with yeast is one of my favorite things. I have never heard of the cast iron pot with a lid technique before. How interesting is that? Beautiful loaf you made.
ReplyDeleteStill in love with your green chalkboard, by the way. I think of it when I'm in the paint section of Michael's, trying to size up how to mix that exact shade. :)
ReplyDeletei can just smell that fresh bread right now. looks so good.

I always admire people that make homemade bread. It seems so time consuming for some reason. That sounds easy enough though!
