When One Door Closes

I've long been fascinated by doors- french, vintage, screened, dutch. Since I was a little girl from the wrong side of the tracks, delivering newspapers to the right side of the tracks. That girl would often wonder what life was like on the other side of those doors.

That little girl who had the audacity to tell her Momma that she was born to belong to a country club.

That little girl who didn't know better than to dream big. That girl grew up and is still dreaming big, still wondering what is behind those doors. Still determined to see for herself. That girl still has a child like wonder every time she throws open a new door expectantly waiting to see what awaits her.

All Dressed Up

This past weekend Maddie went to her first prom. These events can be so nerve wracking. Especially for those of us with girls. Luckily for us she went with her best friend Austin.

If I had a son, I'd want him to be just like Austin. We're still holding out hope that these two will come to their senses.

And just in case you feel the urge to tell me how glamorous my girl is, I thought I'd throw this one in here. When will she learn to not make these faces at me when I have a camera in my hand? She knows it's going right to the blog. Every.stinkin.time.

Fabulous Friday- Be Who You Are

One of the many advantages of growing older is that, if you are lucky, you begin to develop a comfort with who you are. We women tend to be very hard on ourselves. We focus on our faults instead of seeing the beauty that we possess.

There are a few things about myself that I used to be very self conscious about, my big hips, my freckles and the fact that my eyes are 2 different colors. As the years have passed, I have come to terms with these characteristics that I used to consider flaws.

Now instead of using fade cream, I adore my freckles. I've always loved them on other people.

I even love my curvy hips. No matter how much weight I've ever lost, those hips have always stuck with me. Those hips allowed me to carry my 2 gorgeous babies with ease and to cart them around with me for their first few years. They make me feel like a woman.

I'm not gonna lie about the eyes. That was a harder thing to come to terms with. But now I realize that it is just part of what makes me uniquely me. And that is something to be celebrated.

Take whatever it is about you, that thing that you can't do anything about and embrace it. Be who you are. It just might change the way you feel about yourself.

What's New

A week? Really? I've been busy. I have proof and although I didn't get to spend the week visiting all of your blogs the way I had hoped, I do have good excuses. I'm hoping that counts for something.

We've been enjoying watching Spring's magic unfold before our very eyes.
We've spent some time getting our feet wet.
As if that weren't enough to make me happy, I mastered this Sunday's Sudoku puzzle. Yep. Totally showed it who was boss.

Then my sweet, sweet hubby surprised me with a little laptop. Now I love to spend time lounging in bed pretending to be Kathleen Kelly. Only 2 things could make this any better  1)if my bedroom were this pretty 2) if You've Got Mail was playing on my tv while I was lounging.

Then I met a friend at the coffee shop in the Village for a little visit and then got my haircut at a salon just off Main Street. I believe it was the best first cut I've ever gotten. I took eleventy thousand pictures of it so you could see. It was either this one where I'm doing the weird self conscious mouth thing or one that would give you the opportunity to play count the chins. Weird mouth thing it is! After my haircut I walked the streets under the flowering trees with the beautiful Spring breeze at my back and the sun shining on my face and I just knew I was where I'm supposed to be.

When I got home I signed papers that officially put us under contract. We've sold our house! We close June 14th. There are still hurdles to jump, an inspection on the 23rd and an appraisal. Oh and we don't have a place to move to. Our first choice has been rented and it looks like our back up has been rented too. Now is a time for faith. I'm afraid that was in short supply for me this morning as I broke down in tears at this news. Oh how I had my heart set on the little cottage rental. I don't know what's ahead for us but I guess that has been the theme for this entire process. I welcome all the lucky vibes, prayers, good mojo and support you guys want to shoot my way.

Good For You

I heard a rumor that today on the Holiday with Matthew Mead blog they are announcing the names of all of the Holiday Blog Experts. Go here if you want to check it out!

Also as a special bonus for anyone that orders the magazine today or Friday, you will be entered into a drawing to win one of these great prizes. There's only one catch, if you win that 2 tiered garden stand you have to send it to me. Just kidding. Kind of.
P.S. I really appreciate how supportive you all are of me and this post isn't about that, but simply a chance to tell you about a fun opportunity for you! I'm looking forward to talking about all of you next week. I'm rather bored with the subject of me!
