The First Day

The first day. A day filled with anticipation, excitement, anxiety and fear. A day filled with longing for just one more day of vacation, one more day to play outside and stay up late. This first day will always stand out from the rest. This first day is different, because Emma is now a 1st grader and will be at school the whole day. This first day is different, because Maddie started high school and is growing up so quickly. This first day is different, because I have my days to myself and finally the time to fulfill old dreams and make new ones.

  1. Such a bittersweet moment! They grow up sooooo fast! Enjoy having a few precious hours all to yourself. They'll be home before you know it!

    So, what's on the list? Knowing you (kind of), it will be something great.

  5. Ha, Sorry, should read before I hit send.

    I love seeing them getting on the bus. And I love hearing a mother looking forward to some alone time! Yea for that.

  6. Such a sweet post Jen - and wonderful picture. Oh how I remember "first days" - both my children are finished school now - so no back to school clothes and items to purchase... instead it's been "new clothes for work" shopping :-}
    Soon you will be hearing all the fun events from Emma & Maddie's 1st day back! Wishing you a wonderful day.

  8. I love this sweet photo, Jen! Brings back memories for me. Although, when Michelle (my baby) started Kindergarten, I went with her, as a volunteer library aide. I even rode the bus a few times!

  11. I love the photo. My little boy starts kindergarten this year and I'm just so torn about it. I'm excited because he's soooo excited but I'm sad that he's growing up.

  12. Awe! Such a sweet picture and boy oh boy does it bring back memories! My baby turns 32 on the 22nd! I can still remember that he was so small he actually had to climb with his hands and knees up the bus steps! I wanted to grab him and run home - lol.

  13. Enjoy these special moments, they end too soon. School days for my kids are almost over and I miss that fun back to school time so much. On the other hand, go for whatever you want to do while they are gone because you deserve to follow your dreams!

  15. Hi! Found you in a sidebar at "Small Space Style". Nice pictures. I like ME's magazine; I also like "Cottage Living" and will browse "Country Home" the next time I'm at a bookstore.

    *My* baby girl is a senior in high school this year.

  22. Hi Jen,
    I still get butterflies in my stomach on that first day of school. The memories of myself returning come flooding back and I feel strange inside. My kids don't go back till the 6th of September. I am surprised your kids are back so soon.
    Enjoy your free time again! Can't wait to see what you'll get up to...!!

Now they are 23,22,18 and i have two grandbabies.Kaytlynn will be 4 in Nov. and started her year in a christian preschool. Now that is really hard.Hope your kids have a safe year and you find loads of fun things to do.

  25. Oh! It is so unfair to start school in August!!! It should be a law that school can never start before September and has to be over in May!!!

  27. Yeah! You're right about the 1st day of school. It's filled with excitement and a little fear of the unknown. You've earned some time alone if you have a kiddo in 1st and one in High School. Enjoy it!!
