When Life Gives You...

I've developed a bit of a button obsession. I wouldn't say I'm collecting them, so much as hoarding them. I'm running out of storage space and thought I should start using them in some way. I'm sure this is only the first of many ways you might see buttons leave my studio, but when life gives you buttons...make button pushpins.
Some in my studio, holding up my calendar and showing up on my inspiration board. Such a fun little project that makes me smile every time I look at them.

Pink, red and white for Emma's inspiration board. Take note of what an interesting artist she is already. Love the way she expresses herself! She's also smart enough to know that if an artist surrounds herself with other creative people, that it just sparks more creativity. You'll note a fine example of this with the Gorgeous "E" art created by her friend Maya. Emma loves to create with scraps bringing home fistfuls of them every day from school. I think she enjoys the challenge of turning someone else's trash into something pretty. Maybe I'll do an interview with the artist soon & post it on this very blog. Yes, an exclusive with Emma. I bet you'll be back for that one.

Now, aside from buttons, life has also given me a cold, so I'm going to spend the day curled up on the sofa with a stack of magazines & then I'm going to watch Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House. First I wanted to thank you for the great ideas on my last post. I'm using several of them already. As for the books, I've removed covers on the books that were the same on the hardcover as the paper cover and on the ones whose hardcover appealed to me more than the paper cover. A compromise that made me feel less anxious! Thanks for your ideas and opinions. Always!

  14. I love the colors! Now, how did you make these pushpins...my luck, I'd go to pull the pin out of the bulletin board and the button would come off. What is your secret????

  20. Thanks for the great button inspiration. I recieved a grocery bag of buttons quite a few years ago from one of my Grandma's and they were vintage as you would say. And now my other Grandma is going to give me her old treddle singer sewing machine and a bunch of buttons. I needed your great ideas to use some of these up!

  21. Hope you're feeling better soon. A pile of magazines and a cosy sofa always helps.
What is it with buttons that is so appealing. For me they're almost like sweets, I just can't resist them. Your top photo is especially gorgeous because of the mix of colours you have there. Just lovely.

  23. I love your button colors. How did you inquire your buttons? I saw a few great ideas for buttons and wish I had some. One idea was on a plain t-shirt (one with a v neck works best) sew the buttons around the neckline to dress up your shirt. Also a saw a picture frame with buttons all over it and it was so cute.
