We are having a cookout Sunday, which promises to be a miserably hot day, as it turns out, and I'm trying to plan my menu. For some reason I'm having a hard time deciding what to serve- I'm leaning towards a smoked pork shoulder, cole slaw, potato salad, baked macaroni and cheese, fresh corn salad, watermelon and lemon cake. It got me wondering, what is your favorite warm weather menu?
Can I just say that you guys are the greatest? Thank you all so much for your help and suggestions yesterday. I spent most of the day running all over (Bed, Bath and Beyond, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Calico Corners, Crate and Barrel) with no luck and ended up feeling more frustrated than before. Then low and behold, I check my email this morning and there is a message from The Company Store offering free shipping and I thought I'd check and see if they had anything and whaddayaknow? Why they have 100% camel colored linen panels for not much more than it would cost me to make them! I'll be ordering them later today and breathing a big 'ol sigh of relief that I don't need to worry about that anymore.

The Backyardigans
Summer. How did that happen? School is out and we will be spending more time outside. More alfresco meals, more time spent sitting and talking, more time entertaining. Don't these inspiration pictures make you feel cool and relaxed?

these are wonderful outdoor dining images...i love them!
ReplyDeleteyour menu sounds so yummy
i love coleslaw with a delicious meat. i am a huge grilled shrimp lover but know that can be somewhat risky.
& watermelon....perfect
xo
My favorite summertime meal is a big cobb salad. Super easy and so tasty. Serve it with some crusty bread and a big pitcher of your favorite summer time drink and it is always a crowd pleaser :0)
ReplyDeleteMarinated chicken is something I can't seem to ruin. Grill it and it is very tender. Broccoli salad, and potatoes also grilled in foil...with seasoning and cheese added for the last 5-10 minutes.
ReplyDeleteAny grilled meat, boiled or baked potatoes, herb-quark to go on top, corn on the cob.
ReplyDelete(2 small plain joghurt containers drained, stir in some sour cream, add any herbs you like, salt black pepper)
If anyone's interested, the picture of the French style tablecloth outdoors (with red stripe for border) is from http://www.thelinenworks.com. They have a brilliant selection of outdoor tablecloths as well as lots of other gorgeous homewarey things.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer meal is a $5 pizza from Little Caesar's, eaten in my living room with the AC *and* the ceiling fan going; this is Texas, where summer can last from Valentine's Day until the middle of November!
ReplyDeleteWow those are just gorgeous!!! It inspires me to get into the backyard and sweep up a bit... my patio is shameful at the moment!!! :) xo!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have had patios on the brain since that's what I've been working on for the past month. Love sitting outside, although our heat wave is about to kill us all. Wish we had some of your rain right now!

Just reading about all the storms in Indiana and parts of the Mid-West...just checking in to make sure all is well with you and your family.
ReplyDeleteLove the outdoors post...and so happy that you found something that may work well for your curtain fabric...darn those Jo-ann chains!
Blessings...

Oh - I just love entertaining outdoors...but you do end up being a slave to the weather! Our last big party was a bit of a flop because we kept getting rained on! Yours will be wonderful. You can always place indoor fans outside just for the event!
ReplyDeleteI love outside table settings, but the sun and bugs kill me.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's really hot, I always add a nice cool fruit salad to the mix.
ReplyDeleteI also do a french green been salad.
Hope you had a lovely cookout.

The photos are so inviting for a relaxed summer day. I hate that feeling of not knowing what to cook on a very hot day. On such days I like some cool tomato salads or a Greek salad and some cottage cheese.
ReplyDeleteWish you nice week. Suzy
