An Update

Hello all of you wonderful friends. Thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and very loving and encouraging words. My visit with the cardiologist went pretty well today. He is a wonderful doctor and I feel like I am in the best of hands. He was very comforting and at least seemed not to think that whatever is going on with me is worst case scenario. There are tests scheduled for Thursday am and we should know a lot more then. I know that if he was really concerned he would have made sure I had the tests today. He seemed to think that since 10 or 11 years had passed since I took the medication & the fact that I treadmill 3-4 hours a week were things that were on my side. I would love to hear more from those of you with friends & loved ones that have been through something similar after taking phen fen. I will keep you all updated and hope that you will continue to keep me in your prayers. Your words were truly a blessing to me today and helped keep me calm. Love, Jen

  6. Good news that the dr. didn't rush you off to the hospital or right into testing. I will continue to pray for you and watch for updates as you learn more information.

  7. Yep...Those are great signs! Are they going to do a take home test? (where you are hooked up all night, looking for arythmia?)

I know how scary it is...I went through a battery of heat tests last year...all turned out perfectly perfect!

    Wishing you strength and peace!

  8. I've had irregular heartbeats in the past and then it triggers a major panic attack. It was a horrible feeling...I really thought I was dying! I would break out in a cold sweat and not be able to catch my breath. I had EKGs done and nothing showed up. It doesn't happen very regularly anymore...thank goodness! I never even thought that it could be from the phen-fen!

  9. Oh forgot to say that I'm really glad to hear that your doctor is calm about it. Remember that worrying doesn't help anything so try not to worry too much!

  10. Hi Jen, I was just checking in to your blog and was so surprised to hear this phen fen news. I have a close friend who also took phen fen for about a year in 1997. She had to stop taking it because of the reported health risks. She's fine now, and the only health problems she's had since the medication is chronic insomnia. They are still running tests on her.

I'm so glad to hear you are in good hands and that you take care of your body with exercise! That will make such a difference there.

Please keep us posted. My prayers are with you.

  11. Jen, my sister's MIL took phenfen and had heart problems as a result. I know the drug company settled out of court with her, but it's been years ago. I will check on more details for you.
It's such a shame that these companies don't always take the precautionary measures they should. They get blinded by the $$$.

And I believe you are right. Not scheduling tests until Thursday is a good sign!

  21. I too read your blog all the time but don't believe I have ever posted here. This verse meant so much to me in a personal health crisis, surgery, and recovery. "Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand."

Praying for peace and good health for you. Do not be afraid!

  28. Hi, Jen -- I just wanted to let you know, first of all, that I will be praying for you and thinking of you and your family. Secondly, I work as a cardiac ICU nurse in Atlanta and patients we have seen with effects of this and similar drugs have been fine. (The reason they were in our unit was NOT for that...but for other reasons...just to clarify!) From the fact that he did not order immediate tests/treatment/etc. and the fact that you take care of yourself, I am certain all will be fine with you as well. They will probably do an echo (ultrasound of your heart) and see if there has been any damage, and if so, how much. Were you having symptoms or did this arise from a routine exam? (You don't have to answer that, of course...I was just wondering.) Anyway, cling to God, and we will certainly keep you in our prayers over here.

  35. Hi Jen. It's Jen from The Closet Therapist. I came by to get that paint color from your dining room again and saw your post. I'll be praying for you and hoping with you that this is not going to affect your health one bit.

As I was browsing your old posts looking for the paint color I saw that you had your unintended collection of birds that you were paring down. I love birds too! Anyway, I read somewhere that a collection usually tells us something about ourselves that we are trying to express. (I think it was in Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui.) Maybe you can ponder that. I finally found the paint color and laughed when I saw that it is "Bird's Nest". There must be something to the birds, dearie!

If I use that paint color, I'll send you a picture!
