My Dream Home

Congratulations to Victoria who is the winner of the House and Home giveaway. Thanks to everyone who entered. I love getting to check out the blogs of all of you new commenters and discovering new favorites.

Some of you wanted to know what my dream house is. Well, it really changes on any given day but there are some things that remain the same. It is not too big, but rather cozy. It is simple but with nice details, woodwork and character.

It is filled with family treasures as well as those found on antiquing trips. It has wide open spaces where lots of people can gather but that is also comfortable for just the 4 of us.

It has cozy little tucked away nooks and crannies for reading, being creative or napping.

It has views out of every window that encourage daydreaming.

It looks out over the water, with tons of trees and if I'm really lucky, mountains or at least really tall hills.

These pictures are from a lakeside village about an hour away from Indianapolis & are meant to be used as second homes. It's a little out of our price range, in so much as it cost money and we don't have any. Let me know if you want to go in halfsies.

  2. Those are all lovely homes. I'll have to admit that I spend an inordinate amount of time flipping through home plan and decorating books. The Farmer and I are looking for idea on building our retirement home. I haven't found a photo yet that reflects the "feel" I'm going for and it's frustrating.

Thanks for the beautiful idea photos.

  3. This looks like a great place...your description of your dream home is perfect. If $ were no object I would give up my "everyday" house and have a cottage at the beach and a cabin in the mountains...both small and cozy, what a decorating project that would be!

  5. Jen -

Wow, I love that house. Especially the double fireplace and the open spaces! Matt would love the fact that it's clean and doesn't have any clutter. (So I'm guessing only one person lives there.)

I'll go in half with you...if we ever win the lottery.

That looks very similar to many of the houses where we vacation. They are amazing. I have a link on my sidebar, you should check them out - Watercolor, FL. and Seaside, FL. I would love to own a home there one day. But for now, I'll be content with one week a year.

  17. Beautiful homes! I think mine would be a 1930s Spanish style home or a beach house in Malibu!

That said, I am not sure I believe in the concept of a "dream house". I know it sounds corny, but my dream house is one full of happiness and love...and one that reflects my personality and taste, yet also affords me the ability to pursue the many other things in life I enjoy. So I am trying to take the approach that I'm living in my dream home now...because it is what you make it.
