Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow

I had a bittersweet moment this morning. I received my very last issue of Country Home. I had actually thought that the February issue was to be the last so it was a sweet surprise, but I almost can't stand to read this last issue. I'm comforted by my stacks of saved issues and I know that I will reach for them time and again but I feel such a loss. I realize there are more serious things going on in the world, people struggling to keep their homes and feed their families and this certainly doesn't amount to anything compared to that, but I'm still going to mourn the loss of this friend.

Hoping your morning is light on the bitter, heavy on the sweet.

  1. Jen, Misery loves company...tears over the loss of my favorite magazine. I also have STACKS of them in my home. I am so glad that I DIDN'T throw many away over the years and will continue to savor them like books.

  2. Oh, I didn't know there would be one more. I haven't gotten the mail yet today. I absolutely thrived on getting all my shelter magazines in the mail. Now I can't stand to walk by the magazine rack and see Nothing! in the "home" magazine area. Phooey! I will have to find a new addiction. Pam

  3. I too, feel your pain. I just received my last issue as well. My mom got me a subscription for a Christmas gift, before the news came out. . .I do love to look through them time and again.

  5. I can only echo your sentiments. Unfortunately this will continue until advertising money is available again. Let's hope for a quick economic turn around! Magazines are one luxury I don't feel guilty indulging in so it hurts to see them drying up.

  8. Are you serious? I had no idea! I love this magazine, too! I was so surprised with Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion going under, then Figure Magazine and now this one? WTF...

    I'm going to go cry.

  10. I also thought the Feb. issue was the last so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this in the grocery store and I snatched the last copy... Of course the next day mine was in the mailbox so now I have two! The magazine racks are looking a little skimpy these days...very depressing!

  11. As I read the last issue, I felt so bad for the new editor who only had two issues at the helm. I'm sure she's heartsick. So, it's a loss of beauty for us and a job for her. So sad.

  16. Jen little by little they are all going by the wayside! It is so sad. It too is one of my luxuries that I enjoy so much. Now even that pleasure is disappearing! Maybe when the economy improves they will come back. RJ

  19. It is too sad as I have been reading it for many many years. These last two issues were the best ones in quite some time. I hope they know what they are doing to us faithful ones. Also heard Domino and Blue(can't remember the name) are also kaput. I loved Mary Emmerling and Cottage Living too.

  29. I KNOW!! all of my magazines are going under- was it something i said?? i agree with you that it is much harder on the people who are now without income & insurance... so i will focus on doing what i can to support my local economy rather than weeping over my lost hour of quiet & beauty. : ) i'm new to your blog, but i enjoy it!
