Since the Piano has now found a new home, I've moved on to the first step of turning our study into a cozy place for the girls to hang out. I'm searching for a sofa that is inexpensive, comfy, neutral and won't show kid damage too quickly. I was immediately drawn to the chocolate and I think it will be a nice contrast against the green (although I'm never opposed to repainting a room!) but then I think the vanilla is so neutral that it would be a good choice.
As much I would have loved a crisp white slipcovered sofa, sweet hubby (rightly) vetoed that move. As much as I love my chair, I am constantly taking the lint roller to it. Add in messy kids and I would make myself a little crazy. And possibly them too.
All I know for sure is that I don't want to spend the next 6 months making a decision and I want a place for kids to get out of my hair, umm, I mean hang out, without having to spend my life's savings to achieve it. So which are you, chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate! (Unless you have a light-colored 4-footed kid running around.) Very pretty green walls, too!
ReplyDeleteCHOCOLATE - if you already drive yourself crazy with a white slipcover that you technically could bleach - but the lint drives you nuts in between washings - go with the chocolate - I have a chocolate velvet sofa slipcover and...a 2 yr. old and a 1 yr. old = happiness ;-)
ReplyDeleteChocolate, much easier to care for.
ReplyDeleteTotally chocolate!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...do you have pets or is it just the kids to take into consideration? If it is just the kids, I would go chocolate. If you have animals, I would go the one that matches their hair the best.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new room!
~Michelle
Chocolate trumps vanilla ALWAYS when you have kids!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Especially with your green walls.
We just ordered a sofa for the family room. Like you, I love the look of a crisp vanilla sofa. However, I know that it wouldn't be as crisp and pretty in a rather short time, so I went with the chocolate. The kicker here...I don't have kids! LOL
ReplyDeleteI vote for chocolate too...kid-friendly, and so many possibilities! It would look great against your green wall, and the pillow choices would be endless!
ReplyDeleteChocolate is always wonderful!!! Can you have too much of that great confection? We just painted our living room Bitter Chocolate from Behr paint and it is delicious!!!! Everything POPPED!! I love color so I have lots of greens and periwinkle blue in that room and wow does it look classy. Most people would be afraid to use a dark color but it does not make the room smaller. It actually defines the space and envelops you! Go with chocolate and put some great green pillows on that delicious couch!Have fun!!!Meg
ReplyDeleteWith small kids and bright green walls, I vote chocolate. Or go for 2 sets of slip covers, so you can put one on while the other is being washed, that is the only way I can keep my sofa clean with dogs and a baby around!
ReplyDeletesix years ago, after our house fire, we went with two "tan" mini sofas - - - I would vote for the chocolate. But, if it's too "chocolatie" colored, pet hairs, etc. will still show . . .
ReplyDeleteand then there is the part about how just seeing the color might increase cravings . . .;-p
Chocolate-and I love the style gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI love my white love seat but I hate keeping it clean...my 17 year old and his friends aren't exactly "tidy" and "neat" so I'm grateful I chose something that was "wash 'n wear" but I'm just tired of the "wash" from all the "wear"!
ReplyDeletechocolate
ReplyDeleteoh, i love the chocolate, but wait till you see the new set i'm getting.
ReplyDeleteand it's slipcovered.
xo
Chocolate :)
ReplyDeletei love my white couches BUT they are slipcovered so that i can take them off and wash them...often...
ReplyDeletei wouldn't try it without a slipcover. then i couldn't drink my tea on the couch!
chasity
Chocolate for sure. You can always slip cover them Vanilla when your kids are out of the house.
ReplyDeleteVanilla. But I'd go back and renegotiate for that slipcovered sofa. I gave in and have somewhat regretted it since. I have never once regretted having a slipcover made for my fav chair and have washed it multiple times-always comes out perfect. Whichever you choose will look great tho'-you fab taste!
ReplyDeletechocolate
ReplyDeleteif its for the girls hang out area, that's probably a better bet in the long run.
i love a white slipcover but trying to keep that vanilla color clean may be tough
I have a sofa very similar to the dark brown one...even in color. I still have to lint roll it...becuase of the dark color you can see crumbs, etc. I still love it tho and dont regret the color decision. Not sure if that helps.
ReplyDeleteI say chocolate too! I also gave my kids a den to hang out in and acutally bought a brown leather sofa just for that reason!
ReplyDeleteChocolate for sure!!
ReplyDeleteDefinately Chocolate!!!!
ReplyDeleteChocolate!! I'm wishing that my sage couches were dark right now- they show everything and kids are gross, lol.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!!
~Rachel
Def Chocolate! Both are beautiful, but the darker makes more sense. What's the name of the paint color???I've been looking for the perfect green for my study and that looks great!
ReplyDeletechocolate all the way!!
ReplyDeletewith kids? CHOCOLATE!! If you can't go slipcover then go dark! Then you never have to worry about it again!! Loved your spring post btw- so light and airy!
ReplyDeletemy practical mind says chocolate, and it is a gorgeous couch, but I think I prefer the vanilla, with some really great, bright throw pillows.
ReplyDeleteOhhh, I'm loving the chocolate! Especially with the green paint and white cabinets. Get some comfy throw pillows and you're done! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the chocolate! I think it will look great w/the green walls.
ReplyDeleteChocolate!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy...
Marianna
Have just gotten rid of a cream sofa and replaced it with a chocolate one.
ReplyDeleteI was worried that being darker than I was used to, it would dominate the room. But it hasn't and I love it.
So choc from me.
Go for the chocolate!!! I love the color green as a contrast!
ReplyDeleteChocolate gets my vote Jen & I love it mixed with the gorgeous green you have in the bird pillow :-)
ReplyDeleteOoo, definitely chocolate especially after you talked about the trouble you have with your chair.
ReplyDeleteAll the best,
Allison
chocolate all the way! I would LOVE it.
ReplyDeletei vote vanilla. but I only have a vanilla colored pup and no kids. good luck :)
ReplyDeleteOh my! I am SOOOOOOO Vanilla! But I really SHOULD be chocolate, because I have kidlets and hairy beasts living in my house!
ReplyDeleteI am smitten with your green paint color! It's the perfect shade. And would equally as good with chocolate or vanilla!
chocolate....it will hide all of their spills and dirty hands!!
ReplyDeleteI would go with vanilla I got a similar couch to it. You can work with more colors as accents. My couch is on my blog. Check it out to help with your decision.
ReplyDeleteAs a mother of three and grandmother of four I've had many differnt fabrics of all colors and types. Most definitely the chocolate!!! The lint roller might be a pain but it's better than stains. You'll be getting out the steam cleaner instead of the lint roller if you go too light!!! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI think they are both beautiful but am going to say Chocolate. It would be so much more stress free. And it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Chocolate...Very nice contrast! You have such a beautiful style! I just finished phase I of my foyer redo http://lifeatbuttercupfarm.com/foyer-in-progress/ . I love freshening up for SPRING!
ReplyDeleteVanilla EVERYDAY..slipcovered, of course..
ReplyDeleteCrazily I am Vanilla. I wash it...I bleach it. But I do vanilla.
ReplyDeleteChocolate - it too is a "neutral". I have white slipcovered in my living room and chocolate in the kids "hang out" room - life is good!
ReplyDeleteMy heart says Vanilla but my head (that knows the stain power children deliver) says Chocolate. Best of luck with your decision.
ReplyDeleteI would say choc. If you are like me I would spend so much time srcubbing spots on vanilla. I am covering one of my favorite chairs in choc velvet.
ReplyDeleteBristol
Chocolate!!! I love light slipcovers too tho, so I understand. A few years ago I made the "switch" to an Olive green chenille sofa and it still looks as good as the day we bought it! You will be happy with the chocolate! :)
ReplyDeleteWhite is my vote! I have three floors of white slip covered furniture, 3 kids and 1 English Mastiff and I have never gotten tired of my white, due to the fact you can always change the theme by the pillows and quilts! I even slip covered my 12 year old headboards and footboards and it stays clean!
ReplyDeleteWe have both in our place - and the little one will spill dark stainy things on the cream coloured chair and white/light stainy things on the chocolate chair! Go for the one you like best - forget about stains.
