Happy Place

I have a confession. This is my linen closet. It's one of my happy places. Sure I wish I had real shelves and that all of my linens were color coordinated like Martha Stewart's linen closet. It gives me something to strive for. In the meantime, I love to open the door and just look at it. I love how I can find just what I'm looking for. It may be the single, most orderly space in my home.

I love the neat piles of pretty quilts and the vintage napkins. I'm not quite sure why they make me happy but sometimes when I'm feeling a little crazed, I will just open the door and look. And take a deep breath. And then I can soldier on. Please don't leave me comments telling me how weird I am. I already know.

You know what else? You are all my happy place too. Thanks for all the caring comments and heart felt emails you sent me. They help. They really do. Sometimes I find it easier to focus on the little happy places in life. Here's hoping your days are filled with many of them.

  2. My linen closet is on my list of to-do's. But even afterwards, it won't look like yours. (I keep my linen closet door closed at all times!)

But my garden makes me go ohhhhhhh!

  3. Hi Jen. Love your happy place. Mine is my cabinet where I keep all of my cake pedestals, platters and serving dishes. Sometimes when I have the cabinet doors open, my husband will ask, what are you looking for?, and I say oh nothing, just looking.

  5. Well at least you have a linen closet. We don't even have such space in our house and I make due with this little drawer that I fits in our hallway.

  6. Don't we all have a place like this? I recently reorganized my pantry and would find myself just standing in there frequently...I would even drag the rest of my family in to admire it...they didn't seem as moved by it as I was! Your linen closet looks great I totally understand why it is your happy place!

  7. I don't think you are weird at all! It's always great, when life is chaotic with family, house, work, etc. to have a place that is organized and that you can control. Perfect!

  8. I love your happy place too! Love linens all stacked so nicely.. I have the same napkins with the little roses like in your last picture. They are leftovers from the Shoppe days and are headed to the garage sale unless... : )

  9. My storage room is my new happy place. My husband and I recently cleaned it out and now everything is in it's proper place. It really does bring me joy when I open that door.

  10. You're a weirdo.

    :)

I LOVE linen closets and I love yours! My linen closet is two plastic tubs, shoved under my bed. Everytime I see a beautiful picture of an open-doored (huh?) linen closet in a magazine, I tear it out and put it in my file. You're right - it's so soothing. Stacks of serenity!

  11. you are so not weird! do you know how excited I was when we bought our house and I had an actual linen closet??

then last year, there was a (very) brief moment in time when my linen closet was organized. right after I had a garage sale & sold half of my bedding & had enough room to hold my linens.

then I increased my fabric collection for specific sewing projects (yet to be completed) and now my closet resembles Monica's spare closet on Friends. it does NOT make me happy when I open the door to get a bath towel in the morning.

I was thinking about you yesterday, and remembering what I put my mother through in my teen years. I pray that Ellis doesn't take after her mother in that regard :)

  14. This should be your happy place because it doesn't look anything like mine which is unorganized. Thanks for the inspiration to change that! Stop by & say "hi" soon. If you like what you see, be sure to click the "Follow" button on the right. Be sure to take a look around the boutique by just clicking on the Gold Frame of Porcelain roses on the upper right hand column. Enjoy your time there & stop by as often as you like!

  15. You are not weird! I am so glad there are others who find joy looking at linens and fabrics. I want to have a pie safe or something like it with linens, quilts etc. on display where I sit and read. Love it! thanks for the inspiration :)

  16. Hi Jen, I know exactly how you feel! There is order, and when you open that door, it makes you feel like all is right in the world. Well, in your house anyway ;)
Sometimes when I have a space well organized like that I do the same thing, keep going back and looking at it. It makes me feel like there is hope for the rest of the house, ha ha. Anyway, your linen closet looks great! Mine has been on my to do list for some time now. Thanks for the inspiration Martha... I mean Jen ;)
