There is a sweet little cottage in the Village that we are thinking about renting for the next year. It has something I have always wanted, a screened in porch.
My mind is all abuzz just thinking of the possibilities.
A place to eat, to play games, to read, to birdwatch, to nap, to connect and to just be.
A place to come together at the end of the day without any electronic interruptions.
A place so warm and cozy that you don't want to leave it in the evening and can't wait to get back to it in the morning.
What does your perfect porch look like?
We have a screened porch & it is one of our favorite parts of the house! We spent summer evenings out there, with margaritas & read & watch the fireflies. I just love to put old chippy pieces out there, with a big cotton rug that can be washed. I also put votive candles along the sill, which looks so pretty at night.
ReplyDeleteright now my perfect porch is full of leaves.
ReplyDeleteBetter get on that!
I do love porches too :) I don't have one, but if I did it would have a cozy feeling...a place to relax, sip on coffee in the morning, ice cream in the evening. Great porch photos you shared!
ReplyDeleteWe have a front porch on our old house but it is not screened in but the thought has definitely crossed my mind.

Those are lovely photos! My dream porch would look like any one of those. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...front porch would have to be the length of the house, deep, with a dozen white rocking chairs. Back porch, screened in, ceiling fans, essentially another room of our home, with French cafe tables and daybeds for lounging.
ReplyDeleteMy ideal screened porch would be nearly as big as my house. I make do with a much, much smaller one. A comfy lounging space is required as is a spot to set the icy drink. Now if it would just warm up enough to use it everyday.
ReplyDeleteI had a screened in porch that overlooked the backyard in a previous house...loved it! Every Wed. evening, the girls in the neighborhood came over for a hump day glass of wine and apps. We sat on the porch...whilst the wee ones played in the backyard, and waited for our husbands to arrive home from their NYC commute, debating on whether dinner would get made on that eve. Those were the days!

the back porch on my home is what sold me!
ReplyDeleteits almost the length of the house
open
no screen
painted the ceiling blue & the floors grey
i love it
we just cleaned it this weekend
being able to hear the ocean while sitting on my porch would be the only extra i need!
have a good day my friend
xo
Everything you want, plus I would have it go around the whole house!
ReplyDeleteI understand your excitement.
I love my screened in porch...it was pretty much the clincher for us buying this particular house.
ReplyDeleteI have all manner of fun ideas for it this summer....
I've also always wanted a screened in porch. Strangely enough when we renovated our house we didn't put a roof on the back deck - it would have been a perfect screened in porch because it faces the ocean and we would have had a lovely breeze. Oh well. :( Our front porch is a place I really love to decorate but I think a little too much road noise to be ideal. Check out my blog for photos.
ReplyDeleteMy porch is getting close to my ideal. I want to paint the floor and ceiling, but I'm wondering how the paint would hold up on the floor. I guess I just need to take the plunge and see. Oh, and if there was a way to keep the dog and her muddy footprints off that would be nice, too.
ReplyDeleteMy perfect porch would be one that is large, airy and comfy..
ReplyDeleteJen, LOVE your porch pics! I have always had a screened in porch before I moved her and I want to screen something in so badly!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen someone put twigs on the ceiling and string twinkle lights? I didn't do it on my porch, but someone I know did. I did have a fica (sp?) tree with twinkle lights.
hug you, Cheryl

ReplyDeleteI grew up having a screened in porch and I loved it. I have always wanted on as an adult but so far, no screened in porch yet.
ReplyDeleteI always tell Cory that I want a sleeping porch, a'la The Man In The Moon, right off the back of the house, connected to our bedroom. He finds it all amusing and absurd.
ReplyDeleteHere's another thought - is it possible that you will end up not wanting to leave the cottage? It sounds pretty darn perfect to me.
It's that time of the year for me to get my screened in porch ready for Spring. Those pictures were inspiring. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Carolyn
I'm so loving all the pics you shared here. I've been needing some inspiration for my patios, porches and nooks. Very inspiring. Take care, Carrie
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous porches all of these! Your blog is so lovely.
ReplyDeletea screened in porch is #1 on my priorities... i'd adore a daybed if i can figure how to keep the humidity from causing mildew. any suggestions?
ReplyDeletereally like your porch choices!!!!
Enclosed!! Mine isn't! Although good size, I'd love it closed! Lori
ReplyDeleteI too have big porch envy. I have a tiny deck on my small cottage but only big enough for a table and 4 chairs and the grill. When mosquitos appear i invest heavily in citronella candles and it works but I want something magical and 3 seasonable...keep dreaming and it will gel sometime!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, I love porches. The place we stay in Florida is full of inviting porches and we spend most of our time there when we are not at the beach. Some of our best days last vacation were spent playing Clue on the screened in porch as it poured down rain. All of our meals were eaten out there and they even had an outdoor bed on the upper porch! Dreamy! You will LOVE entertaining your family and friends out there - or even just having a cup of tea and reading a magazine! It's pure perfection!
ReplyDeleteP.S. In regards to your comment earlier today on my blog...Huey's is all that you remember! YUM! We eat there way too much. I'm addicted to their burgers and fries! You come visit and we'll go to lunch there and shopping at the new Anthropology that just opened up!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you go and have your own beautiful porch, Jen? I, too, have a fascination with porches. And my perfect porch would have a dark floors with a skylight and a fire place on the center.
