We have now been here for 8 months and it will soon be time to start thinking about packing again. While this makeshift studio/office/couch storage room has not been my ideal studio, it has served it's purpose and I am grateful to have some space to call my own. Having this corner is a luxury. One I'm glad my Sweet Hubby always makes sure I have.
I'm not a high maintenance girl. All I really need in life, aside from my family and friends, is a place to sit and sew, stitch, dream and play.
A place to put my inspiration, including my stash of Country Home and Home Companion magazines.
A place for my yarn stash, which I try to keep contained to the size of this basket but which promises to burst free of these confines most any given day of the week.
A place for stacks of lovely fabric that inspire me to sit and put foot to pedal and create something new.
I love this space. It completes me. I hope that if you don't have a space to call your own, that you will walk around your house today with a fresh perspective and find a spot you can claim.
I love your vintage tabecloth...
ReplyDeletewhat a cozy, comfy corner.
I don't have a corner to call my own. Jim and I keep talking about it, but somehow it never happens. :(
ReplyDeleteYour little corner is lovely. :)
I remember that room well! Lovely feel to it in there - I have a couple of spots in the house here - my loom area - and my 'nest' as I call it - the comfy chair in the corner, surrounded by my yarn and books - and then the office/sewing room. I'm not happy unless I'm creating something!
ReplyDeleteLove your creative area... When my daughter left for college I was able to create my own space in her old room. However, I would never be able to take a picture of a beautiful basket of fabric on my floor without you all seeing my dust bunnies!

PS... How I wish I'd saved all of my old Country Home magazines, as well as my Cottage Living!
your little spot is so beautiful. I love the basket with fabric and am so in love over your table cloth...wow. I am inspired and off I go to find my spot to make look lovely and inviting like yours!
ReplyDeleteI think that is what I am lacking right now. My space is spread out all over, I do not have my own special place, that is organized (I can never find anything) and inspiring. It is my goal!! I love your space!! ;-)

That is the one thing that I didn't design in our new farmhouse. When my boys leave the house someday I will claim the lovely loft but until then I need to come up with someplace else. Maybe a corner of our oversized closet. Hmmm...You've got me thinking now.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress form by the way!
Your space s lovely. I love vintage fabrics. I am so envious of your knitting skills!!
ReplyDeleteI have a large cupboard where all my magazines, and there is quite the stash of them and decorating books are. I have a craft/art walk- in closet, and a closet where I keep all my barkcloth hung so I can just touch it and get inspired. Kids growing up and moving creates lots of empty closets and dressers. It didn't take me long to claim those areas!I do lots of altered art and it requires me pawing through many things for just the right things. I had a table and work area set up in a guest room but, I seem to drag every project to the kitchen table or my "nest" where I sit.
Took the table out and accepted my preference. Still I am torn because I cannot stand a mess, so I have to put it all away even if it isn't done, just to drag it all out again later! Nuts, I know.
My husband, like yours always makes sure I have a place to sit and sew or just to have my own "space". Great guys, aren't they?~Patti
ReplyDeleteYou're so right - we don't need a lot a space, just a space to call our own. Your corner is lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have the same Home Companion and Country Home magazines stored away! They are treasures.

Claudia

ReplyDeleteUs girls need a "girl cave" too!!!

I finally have a spot to call my own too after nearly 30 years! Yours is much tidier than mine though. ;)

I am so glad that you could carve out a corner to call your own in your temporary home. I hope that you can find a wonderful area in your new place too. Hugs-Diana

I think your spot is just charming! I love your inspiration heart in the window. I have taken over most of our guest room and my husband loves it. He's a sweetie too. Sounds like yours is too!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful corner, what a beautiful life. you are Blessed!!
ReplyDeleteI love using the baskets for storage! You've made your space very pretty! I'm stopping by to say HI from Penny's! Hugs! ♥
ReplyDeleteI would love my own little space, yours looks so charming. And I can definitely have it - so thanks for inspiring me to get going on that!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about a space of our own. I never had one until now. My mother is here visiting me for the weekend. She said she loves walking in "my room" because it is so relaxing and inviting and cozy. That is just the "look" I was going for. :) And, your house wish list pictures are EXACTLY what I would choose. I hope that you find everything your heart desires. :)
ReplyDeleteOh Jen, I love your space and inspiration pics for the new home. I *always* gain a beautiful fresh perspective here. Thank you and good luck house hunting!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Leslie
Just stumbled across your blog (& have already forgotten where I found it so I can't give anyone credit... Oh to have a memory LOL)and love your corner. We moved into a new to us house last year and for the first time instead of the 3rd bedroom being the office, it is my pink room.
ReplyDeletePainted a pale lavender-y pink to discourage takeovers by my son & husband, it is my space. I have my stash of Home Companion & Country Living (how I miss them, the new quarterly Country Home isn't the same) as well as my vintage Better Homes & Gardens Decorating Books, and yarn, and crafting supplies, and vintage linens, and fabric, and fabric, and fabric...
Unfortunately, it HAS become a catch-all for too much misplaced stuff, so I'm becoming inspired by beautiful blogs such as yours to clear the things I don't love & make it into my favorite spot again. Thanks for the inspiration!
