Lately I've been:
Shopping for the new house
I've scarcely bought anything house related in the past year. I had been fond of saying that I had lost my will to shop. Well folks, I'm here to tell you that I have found my will again.
Doing lots of decorating research
Lots. There are decorating books, saved issues of Country Home and hundreds of tear sheets from magazines past that all need to be sorted through in the hunt for new house inspiration. (If you are anything like me you will click on this picture to make it larger so that you can see what some of my favorite decorating books are.)
Working on a new knitting project for someone special
Can't wait for my newest niece to enter the world.
Packing/sorting/purging
'Nuff said.
Playing the last time game
For instance in the above picture you see a large pack of paper towels. When I buy something like that I say to myself "That is the last time I will ever buy paper towels in this house." Another version of this game is the "by the time" game. It goes like this..."by the time this milk expires we will not be living in this house anymore." There is definitely a theme here.
Doing some reading. Aside from all of that time I am spending flipping through books I am actually reading a couple too. This book as well as the last Harry Potter book. I realize I am years late to that party but at least I finally showed up.
Buying a house. Yep that's right. We closed 2 days ago. We are renting it back to the previous owner for a month and it was really hard to walk out of there without our keys but I'm looking forward to all of the fun we will have when we finally get them on April 15th. Also the time is flying by. Because I am doing lots of stuff. Fun stuff. Cool stuff. Ok, weird stuff too.
So while I seem to have found my will to shop, I seem to have lost my will to spend much time on the computer. Or to cook. I'm not big on that lately either. I know I will get my mojo back sometime soon but until then please excuse my absences and strange, rambling posts when I finally make an appearance.
I'll wait. You go enjoy shopping and moving in to your NEW HOUSE IN THE VILLAGE!
ReplyDeleteYou made that dream come true...so proud of you...and the husband and the girls.....as I'm sure they helped a little ;)
xoxo, Julia
LOVE the new pillows! And I had to laugh about the enlarge picture to read books... I'd already done that to compare which ones I have!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the next month and the move... can't wait to see the new place and what you do with it!
~Chris

I am so happy for you. It is exciting no doubt. I have a serious addiction to decorating books. We have many of the same. Have fun getting ready to move into your dream hoe. You are being missed though!
ReplyDeleteThose pillows. Swoony.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited to watch you work your magic. So go on, now. Get to it!!
I'm pretty sure the will to cook will rev back up come farmers market time!
ReplyDeleteI love the collection of books! I only really have Rachel Ashwell's books. I looked at a few other's at he bookstore and didn't love them enough to pay full price, but I did fall in love with Romantic Prairie Style yesterday and can't wait to receive it!
ReplyDeleteI am in the mood to purge, too! Just took 3 bags of stuff to the thrift shop. Even going to sell some purses and clothes in my vendor space. I love spring for this reason. It's a time to start fresh!

Girl - I can still remember the blog post you did about 'thinking' of moving like it was yesterday. Are you ever in awe of how quickly it all seems to have fallen into place? I'd say you are in a great place...and I can't figure out how that milk won't spoil until April 23rd.
ReplyDeleteThis is eerie- I looked at the photo of the bookshelf and I would have sworn it was a photo of my old bookcases. I have nearly everyone of those books. The books shelves are now in the garage holding my ridiculous collection of Converse tennis shoes ( I teach middle school so I have to dress funny). Now those books are on a wall of white bookcases in our bedroom. You have good taste in books AND decorating.
ReplyDeleteTime is going so fast, you'll be in there in no time. I'm anxious to see all you come up with!
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Julie
I've been following for a little while and just wanted to tell you that I enjoy your blog. I wish you much happiness in your new home!
ReplyDeleteI smiled at your post. I could totally relate! For 1 year I did that same countdown with EVERYTHING...paper towel, coffee filters, bars of soap, dryer sheets etc.
The countdown is on! Enjoy your final days preparing. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having fun getting ready for the move! Glad the closing went well. I did enlarge the book pic...I loved seeing all your "marked" pages...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
How funny....I have most of the same decorating books as you! I know you've just gotta be bubbling over with excitement! Just think how many years you'll have to perfect this house!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new house!
ReplyDeleteThe month will fly by faster than you think, and it isn't unusual to get possession 30 days after closing.
I'm looking forward to all the "stuff" you're going to do. I'm assuming that you're going to share!
Oh, my goodness, Jen!! I am so, so excited for you guys I just can't stand it! Not much longer, and you will be in your beautiful new home! I can't wait to see how you decorate it. It's going to be beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHave fun getting ready for your big move! :)
Beth.
Isn't planning the decor of a "new" house just the BEST! And you know what? It never ends. I am in my house 2 years and still decorating! And yes, I also have a file folder full of torn-out magazine pages of rooms or looks that I love! Best of luck with the actual move. www.lifeatwildberrycottage.com

Love the bathroom picture using the vintage egg basket for toilet paper! What a great idea. I own an antique store and love to see how folks decorate...it is so much fun. Wow you are a busy lady! Congrats on your new house purchase. I can't wait to see it. I love all your little post-its in your books, I do that too.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest is turning 10 in about 2 weeks and it IS amazing how quickly they grow up. I always used to hate it when grown ups said that when I was young, but it is SO true!
I just found your blog and it is lovely. I am in Indiana too. Congrats on your new house! I am your new follower!
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of those "great" decorating books also. Would not part with them at all. I love your pillows!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. We have so many of the same books. We are definitely kindred spirits..I can't wait to see you transform your "new" old house.
ReplyDeleteI will live vicariously through you dear friend..so go ahead and inspire me please.

haha you totally read my mind about trying to read the book bindings to see what you've got!! I love decorating books and mags. Organizing all those torn out sheets of paper with beloved 'wishful' pictures is always an impossible task.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Organized Simplicity a wonderful book. So full of wisdom and beautiful things.
ReplyDeleteBlessings to you. Amy
