Celebrations

Today I'm working on Emma's slumber party for Saturday night. I'm really enjoying the process instead of stressing like I have done in years past. It's making such a difference.

Designing the decorations and doing the table are always my favorite parts. There are a lot of easy, inexpensive, homemade touches this year.

I made this bunting to decorate the chalkboard in the dining room. I've wanted to make one for ages and now that I have bulked up my fabric stash and discovered a deep love for my sewing machine, it seemed like the perfect time. I think I could shut myself in the studio and make buntings until every last scrap of fabric is gone.

I put together these kits for the girls to make felt flower pins. There are materials to make a pink and an aqua one. I was going to put together another craft but I realized, as usual, that I had gone overboard and this really was enough. I only wish I had come to my senses before I bought all of the materials for the second project.

Emma has requested Red Velvet Cupcakes for the party and I made these little cupcake flags out of toothpicks and Japanese masking tape to decorate them.

I'm really looking forward to this party as opposed to looking forward to it being over which is how I usually am. Although, with 6 eleven year old girls sleeping in my house Saturday night, I might take those words back. I'm suddenly thinking it was smart to plan the party during the weekend that we spring our clocks ahead an hour.

  2. What a wonderful party you will have. I was thinking about you this morning, funnily enough and even googled the real estate in your little Village. I love that you are living out your dream.

I know what you mean about looking forward to the thing being "over". I used to do that, too, but now I try to enjoy the moment for just what it is and not stress out over it so much. Happy Friday, Jen! xo Diana

  3. If you do make more banners, I'll buy one. They are hard to find here in the US, but they seem to be every where on UK sites and blogs. I think they are absolutely charming! You really are a great mom, Jen. I love the project the girls will be making at Emma's slumber party. I wanna be 11 again and invited to such a fun party. Enjoy... my two have grown up and now I'm reliving the fun with my 3 year old granddaughter.

  8. Those are the neatest little touches- they are gonna love it! My mom always made sweet little bits for my birthday parties too. I did way more when my boys were younger- lots of homemade detail and crafts and activities, but that ended a few years ago. They just want junk food and video games and movies now- cute details, decorations? Eye-rolling is all I get. Oh for a girl to make parties for!

  10. I just love those craft kits -- I would be so excited to get one of those at a party! Also, those cupcake flags. I love Japanese printed tape, but I never know what to do with it...you have now given me an excuse to start buying it :)

  18. What wonderful ideas for the party! I love all of the details. My oldest just turned 11 and we had a slumber party of 7 girls.....it was a long night! One left at 8:30 PM, one was up at 3 AM and left by 5:30 AM. I'm glad it is behind me! I can't wait to hear about yours!

  19. Terrific ideas Jen. As always, I love the colors you chose and how simple it all is, yet so elegant. I am having trouble gearing up for my daughter's sleepover. She's really excited about it, of course, so I guess I should try harder. Bah humbug!
