Table Talk

Fourteen years ago today I met the best man I have ever known. The man that changed it all for me. The man who brings joy into my life every day and gives me permission to be the real me.

Okay. Enough of that, right? I thought this would be good day to share one of his recent projects with you. When we got the sectional it became necessary to find a smaller coffee table and not wanting to spend any money, my hubby turned an old piano bench we had in the garage into just the right piece. I'm the design and finish girl. He is the saw and build guy. It's obviously a perfect match for us.

He removed the entire top that holds your music, shortened the legs to the proper height and then used the lid of the bench that flips open as the new top. I asked him to build me a shelf underneath to hold the antique dough bowl he surprised me with for Mother's Day so I could use it to hold my magazines.

Always a stack of books. Every flat surface has one. Does that happen in your house too? I just love books so much that I require a stack near me at all times.

I may have mentioned a time or twenty how much I hate painting furniture. It was different with this piece. I think partly it was because I love how this came together, the team effort and how we made something that was just right from something that was sitting around here unused. I also learned that it's fun to paint furniture when you don't look for perfection. There might be a life lesson for me in there somewhere?

And this? This is just a gratuitous picture of an adorable photo bombing dog.

Thank you all so much for all the love and encouragement on my last post. I know I've not been around much lately and I miss this place but I've really just been keeping busy with the everyday things required to take care of a home, myself and a family.

  1. I am so impressed that he had the vision to turn a piano bench into this table! Great table, great color, and obviously a great pair the two of you make. It looks lovely against the white backdrop of the sectional.

  9. Your table did come together beautifully. Does your husband realize how much you loved the process? Sometimes I look back and think of the process we've gone through to accomplish something. That is often the best part. :)
