Where the Creating Happens

My studio. I believe it is everyone's favorite room in the house.

Most people that walk through our front door get sucked into the magic. I love to watch my friends walk around dazed, trying to take it all in. Even my Sweet Man loves it. This morning he parked himself in the chair that is temporarily tucked into a corner and drank his coffee while he surfed the internet.

It's really the only room that I can tolerate an untold amount of things and collections, preferring a mostly more pared down look in the rest of the house.

I made this wreath a few years ago and these snowball/snowflake garlands last week.

This room calms me and inspires me all at the same time.

This is the only room I allow myself to decorate before Thanksgiving but honestly there are some Christmas things that stay out all year. We refer to that tree as the birthday tree until after December 20th. One of the perks of a Christmas season birthday.

I'm glad that this room makes others happy, but more than anything, I'm grateful because it fills me with such joy.

It is such a luxury to have a space like this and I will never take that for granted or get quite used to the fact that I have it. It has been exactly 8 years since I decided to make what was supposed to be a nursery, into a studio. It started with the serendipitous purchase of my first work table after having gone through a miscarriage and a difficult period afterwards.

Having a studio saved me and changed me.

There have, in the past, been long stretches where it's been difficult to carve out creative time. When I finally do, I feel so restored. Just walking into this room inspires and calms me. I love that it's located right inside the front door and right off the family room so that even as I am getting lost in whatever project I'm working on, I am still connected to everything and everyone around me.

I have great plans for this room in the next year but for now I hope you enjoyed this peek of Christmas in the Studio.

  6. Jennifer, I never knew the story of the creation of your studio...that is so (bitter)sweet...the things that save us become an important part of us. The studio is beautiful & so you. Having followed your blog for a long time, I feel like your studio was the seed that grew into your life in the village. If don't have the opportunity to say so again, I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas!

  7. I love it! I just recently "inherited" the front bedroom for my creative space. Now that both girls are out of the house (sad), the silver lining is extra space and a room to keep all my stuff in. It needs to be painted as soon as possible after Christmas, and then the decorating begins :>) I love seeing other peoples studios to get ideas for mine! I love your birthday tree, it is just like the old silver tree my grandmother used to have.

  9. How wonderful to have such a special place to create! You've filled your space with so many lovely things that I can see how it soothes your soul. The diorama ornament in the first photo is the one I pinned last year. I haven't made one yet, but it's still on my list. Thank you so much for the tour of your creative place, Jen! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  10. I imagine I could sit there with a cup of coffee every day of the week and still find something new to see. That's what everyone says when they come to my house as every room here is filled to the brim with treasures. Best wishes, blessings and happy holidays, Tammy
