Summer Break

Right now the rain is coming down in sheets. There is thunder rumbling in the distance. I have my summer playlist serenading me to drown out the sound of the washer and dryer doing their usual Monday marathon. A little Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Train and Otis Redding to carry me through my days.

The days are flying by. I try to remember to live them in the moment in the hopes it will slow them down but that doesn't seem to be working.

Two of my nieces are here visiting from Virginia this week. Right now Emmy and the girls are playing board games in the treehouse after a morning spent cleaning it out. Bonding with each other instead of screens. As it should be. The guest room has been turned into a bunk room and because it reminds Emma of Annie, she of course wants to keep it this way. I'm inclined to agree.

A few quiet moments. I snatch them where I can. They seem to be harder to come by this summer and I know that I require them to survive. This summer has been a whirlwind. Good, bad and everything in between. Lots of full circle moments.

The best news had me starting a pinterest board and racing to the library for inspiration. We have a wedding to plan! Maddie and her boyfriend of 5 years got engaged on July 4th. We are putting together ideas for a backyard wedding in October 2016. I'm so happy for them. So much excitement ahead. I love that our family is growing!

If you want to follow along you can find Maddie and Daniel's Big Day Pinterest board here!

  2. Oh, I'm so excited for you and Maddie as you plan their wedding together. :) I was so thankful to have my mom involved in planning our wedding & I have such special memories from that time together. Praying that it's a sweet time for your family! (Also--October in the backyard!! What a dream. I really wanted an October wedding but other factors made May a better choice for us. But oh--how I love October!)

  5. Congratulations! You're going to have so much fun planning the wedding together! After hosting our extended family this weekend, I've decided to turn our master bedroom into a bunk room- or at least try! We'll be moving beds around this week while I'm on vacation. It may not work out, but it won't cost us a dime to give it a whirl.

I scrolled through your older posts, and your yard looks lovely. Enjoy the quiet and not-so-quiet moments of summer!

  7. Congratulations on your good news. How exciting to have a wedding to help to plan. When I got married 18 years ago I did handmade name cards and that is it. If I was doing it now, it would be soooooo different.

Take it from me, someone whose life has been a "whirlwind" of emotions and events and emotions and oh yea, events for the past five years..... everything will be okay. Everything will be beautiful! Everything will be how it is supposed to be. Even the good, bad, and the ugly. They all end up being the sum of BEAUTIFUL. ((((((hugs))))))) Congratulations Dear Jen and family on Maddie's engagement and wedding-to-be!!!! So very exciting and YOU are the best soul ever to live this journey..... how I wish I lived by you to take random images of heartfelt observations....You are so deserving of peace.... and love. "This is the day!" This is the EVERY day. It is all we have.... And off we go.

    Love,
    Me

  11. Planning a wedding is so fun and my son's wedding is just 5 days away. When Emma's wedding time comes around, I know she will love their theme - centered around books.

  14. Your summer sounds vaguely familiar with us having a wedding in 4 weeks with my son and his love. Chaotic hasn't happened yet but it will, It will. Congrats and good luck. The books and Pinterest will help a lot. My daughter and other son both had very 'hands on' weddings and so much of the décor for the receptions were 'down to earth', homemade decorations. Wildflowers, haystacks and quick sewn pillows and cushions---it took a village (or a lot of generous family members!).

Best of luck during this busy, happy times. I loved your comment on my blog and appreciated it more than you know. :)
