Beloved Millie
I'm just mourning her so deeply, all the while feeling so deep down grateful for having had so many wonderful years with her. Our beloved Millie left us suddenly last Saturday and we could not have been more shocked and saddened. She was twelve and a half and we had been lucky enough to have her with us for almost exactly eleven years. Of course it wasn't nearly enough.
She was loved by everyone who met her and she never met a stranger. She was spoiled rotten and deserved every bit of it. She was the most special dog I've ever known and in fact was really much more person than dog except that she loved unconditionally and only wanted to be loved back.
She was such a part of every moment of our lives that we now have to find a new normal and it hurts in ways I never would have imagined. When you love with your whole heart. you grieve with your whole heart. As painful as it is, I would do it all over again to live these eleven years with her.
We will never forget you sweet Millie. We will tuck away the precious memories we have of you in our hearts and keep them there forever.
You can read more of her story here.

We mourn with you! So sorry!!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteOh, Jen, I'm so sorry to read of your loss. What a darling dog she must have been to be loved so much. She was gifted with such a beautiful face. You will miss her, there is no doubt, and hopefully your sweet memories of her will, in time, help to heal your broken heart. All of us who have loved a dog with all our heart understand fully your pain. May she rest in peace. hugs, Deb
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry, Jen. I am glad your family got to experience her love

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteThere will always be a Millie shaped hole in your life Jen, but you have some precious memories to comfort you. With you in your grief. Sleep well furry friend xx
ReplyDeleteShe is a little angel. I am sorry for your loss. Dogs are one of the our greatest companions and when we lose them, the sadness is overwhelming. I hope you find comfort in knowing that you gave her a wonderful life and that she did the same for you. <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteI know I never met your sweet Millie but I'm crying right along with you. They truly are filled with so much unconditional love. I had a Golden Retriever growing up. His name was Maxwell. He had a grey face as he got older just like Millie. We had to have him put to sleep when he was 12 due to cancer. Your post brought back so many memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Rest in peace sweet Millie. You were so blessed to be so loved. xoxo

I am so very sorry! Oh, you have me in tears. They really take over our hearts and our souls. And we never know how long we have with them. Take care, Kit
ReplyDeleteI am so so sorry for your loss Jennifer. It is so hard to lose a pet, though I hardly think that the word "pet" describes what they are to us. Family member, really. Take your time to grieve and celebrate your sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a sweet, dear face. I'm sorry for your loss of Millie. I had one very special dog in my life, and feel so blessed to have shared my days with him. May you find comfort in the memories of your sweet girl.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss - it is horrible to lose a member of the family who does indeed give you unconditional love. We lost our 11-year-old Golden/Lab a few years ago, and I've not been able to get my heart to another. Sending you a hug in your terrible loss.

Such a dear face... So sorry to hear about sweet looking Millie
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry Jen -- pets have such a special place in our lives and hearts. Sending hugs to you all.
ReplyDeleteOh my! We lost our dear dog (14 years) who we had adopted at 8 years - a rescue lab, Casey. I still look at her picture every day and tears well up. But I know she had so much love bestowed on her - and she on us that her life was complete. I am sure your Millie is enjoying a party with our Casey in heaven! We are so lucky to have these dear furry friends in our lives - we learn so much from them. Hugs today.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. Such a sweet, sweet face. There are no words.
ReplyDeleteYour words "a new normal" is exactly what it is when you lose a dog. We lost our precious mutt Dorje who was a hand-me-down from our son was the love of our life. Walks on the beach seemed wrong without her running ahead of us or dragging behind as she did at 14 1/2 years old.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think we would get a new dog, but Steve was hurting so much that we got a new dog just 3 weeks after we lost Dorje. Lulu is now the love of our life, but on our walks I still use Dorje's name by accident.
I am happy for you that you had 11 years with such a wonderful sweetie.
Awe Jen, I am so sorry! Sending you and your family hugs.

Jen, I am so sorry for your loss. I know the special kind of love you can have for a dog. Its beyond anything someone who has never had a dog can understand. I know that pain of losing them. Its awful, but it does not compare to what a dog gives you over the years. I wish for you to feel better and keep that heart open to love again. Not today but someday soon.......

Sweet Millie. Just wanted to send lots of love and a massive hug. So hard when we lose them. I still hurt when I think of my first dog Patch. But we had the best 13 years together. x
ReplyDeleteDearest Jen, I'm so so very sorry for your loss. Millie's photos on here always made me smile, she will be sadly missed! Sending you comforting hugs & much LoVe.

Jen, I am sorry for your loss. So sad for you and your family. I know that she is in fur baby heaven romping around. Millie was sweet. She will be missed. Take care and sweet tribute for a sweet dog from a sweet family.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Jen. It is so hard to lose a fur baby. Millie was such a beautiful, sweet girl. My heart goes out to you and your family. {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry for your lose. Holding you in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs! Bonnie
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Millie. She sure was a sweetie and we will miss seeing her on your social media. I am sure she is making new friends up above. Hugs to you.

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry. She was so beautiful and I know you loved her so very very much. My heart breaks for you. You know I understand. I love you sweet friend.
My sympathies. We've said reluctant good-byes to four beloved dogs and they live on in countless family stories and in our hearts: Shep the collie, Punkin the mutt, Daisy the Basset, and Toby the Virginia Walker Hound. The last two dog were lost dogs who found us. Lucky us.

I'm so sorry... it's so hard to lose our 4-legged babies.

Oh, I am so sorry. Before becoming dog owners I don't think I would've understood the depth of your grief, but now I get it. They are part of the family, even if they have four legs not too. I hope the suddenness of her death meant there was little suffering for her. x
ReplyDeleteJen, I am so sorry for your sudden loss. It is so difficult to lose a pet. We are facing the same with our precious golden doodle Isaac who is 13 years old and been having some difficulties as of late. Seeing your post is a reminder to savor these final days with him.

I've been reading your blog for a long time now, but I believe this is my first comment. I'm so very sorry you've lost your sweet Millie. It is so hard to lose our beloved furry family members. I recently lost my own sweet dog, so I know the pain you and your family are feeling. The grieving will go on forever it seems, but the sweet memories of our beloved pets are comforting...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Jen. Funny... I was just talking about her to John and telling him how you caught her stealing tomatoes out of your garden. Then later I saw your post and told him that she had passed. I couldn't bear to leave a comment right then and it's even hard now. This is the third baby a blogging friend has lost in the last few days, that I've known in the time that I've known the blogger themselves. My heart breaks for you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I had two beagles, Hope and Abby, that I loved dearly and they have been gone for 8 and 9 years. I still miss them but now we laugh over their goofiness and miss them on a daily basis. They are our family members almost the same as our children. We now have their brother, Jake, a terrier mix, who is 11 and sickly. We will hope he stays with us for some time more. I believe that they will meet us in heaven when we get there.
ReplyDeleteI am just catching up here, Jen. I am so very sorry. It is just heart-wrenching to lose a pet--there are so many moments and memories attached to them because they are a huge part of our lives. I have not had the heart to replace our Misty because I didn't think I could bear to lose another sweet fur baby. The only consolation is that you know she is beyond all pain and suffering now and is running free over The Rainbow Bridge. My heart aches for all of you--xo Diana
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Jen, I am just reading this post now and I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Our furbabies are so much a part of our family, we feel the loss to the depths of our heart and soul. Sending you hugs from NY. xo
ReplyDeleteHi, Jen ~ it's Mary Deihl. I finally just read this entire post and also the post about Millie when she was younger. What a lucky dog ~ and lucky owners too! She was so pretty and I can't get over the picture of her in her fur stole! We had a whole litter (3 pups) of mini dachshunds for 15 years! We put them down 7 years ago and I still miss them so much!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your family's loss, Jen. I hope you know that she knew how loved she was. Dogs always do. <3
