Miscellaneous Monday the Novel

I've been trying to find time to blog for days! There is so much going on here at our cottage. For instance, right now I'm trying to decide between waiting to find the right vintage piece for my studio or just going and getting this from Ikea. Old school vs. New school. What would you do?

Lately our house has had a revolving door of company and this sweet lady is on an airplane right now on her way to visit me. Probably she's just coming for the Village but I'm gonna pretend it's to see me too. We have  many adventures ahead of us this week.

I hope she enjoys her stay in Emma's room. She has all boys so I think she will be in pink heaven. We're planning on meeting up on Thursday with a couple girls you might be familiar with. More on that soon.

I also wanted to show you the lovely mercury glass I found at Anthropologie today. Do you love mercury glass as much as I do? This isn't a great picture but if I wait for a good picture I might never get a chance to tell you that these can be found for a mere $6 each.

I have a few more things to share but they each deserve their own post. Soon. I don't know if I'll be around this week so if not, I wish you all a wonderful week!

  1. OMG! The lovely Teresa is going to be in the house?? How fantastic! Lucky girls, you are going to have so much fun!

  2. Have a wonderful time together... what a treat!

  3. I love the Trader Joe's popcorn packaging, too. Have you seen the flour - I love the pastels!
    Have fun with your company!

  4. What fun the two of you will have!

There's a lot to be said for both vintage *and* IKEA...I'm no help, I know! Because I'm all about instant gratification, I say get IKEA now, then replace it with vintage when the right piece comes along.

    Have a wonderful week!
    Big hugs,

  5. How fun to meet Teresa! I am sure you will have a wonderful week with your fellow bloggers!
I'm not sure what your budget is for your studio, but Ikea is always easy on the wallet, and looks good to boot!

  6. Have a wonderful time with Teresa and when she's done there, please put yourselves on a plane headed to Portland OR. :-) Looking forward to hearing about your adventures together. -amy

  7. Have fun with Teresa! I would wait for the perfect vintage piece...

  8. p.s. did you know that I am having a giveaway...a $50 gift certificate to either Anthropologie, Pottery Barn or Barnes and Noble. Go here to enter...

  9. I actually bought the Ikea bookshelf for my home office and it is awesome. Sometimes practicality has to come first. And it actually looks great too. Lots of room for stuff. Love ur blog frances

  10. How fun! I think I know the gals you're meetin' up with *wink* Have a super great time :)

I say the same as Anne...get IKEA now, then keep an eye out for something vintagey to replace it with. You can always find some other place to use the IKEA piece.

  11. Have fun with your friend. I will be waiting to see what else you have found...and oh..yeah...I love mercury glass (even the imitation...I won't even tell you that we used to rub nickels with mercury when I was a kid to make them shine)...and lived to tell about it!>)

I'm glad Teresa is going to get a bit of girly pampering...we all need that! Diana

  12. I have been feeling the same way about blogging! Time is limited these days. I love the vintage piece for your studio. It is worth waiting for! Enjoy your friend's visit. I just love her basket of goodies. Such a sweet touch! She will feel special!

  13. JenniLo! I can't believe that Ben will be there in few short moments. I love the little basket you have waiting for her. So love it. Gee, I wonder why I wasn't invited. I would go for the Ikea shelf too, cause you'll always find a spot for it. If you are anything like me, the moment you buy it, you'll find exactly what you were looking for elsewhere!

  14. Go IKEA....until the right vintage piece shows up! It's practical and not expensive and takes the pressure off to find the perfect thing.
    ...and have fun!

  15. hi jen,

looks like some serious fun is ahead! the creative connection, perhaps?

ikea has some piece that might be a happy medium, especially with a little shabbification!

  16. I am excited for you and sooo green with envy! What fun you will have. If you are meeting up with FPFG and the crazy funny Jayme? then it will be a riot. Have a great time. She will love that adorable room!
I say get the IKEA and then the vintage piece you want will show up and you can sell the IKEA piece at a yard sale :)

  17. I agree with other commenters. Buy the Ikea and wait for the perfect vintage piece.
I love the Mercury glass! And you got those for 6 dollars a piece. That is a great deal!
Can't wait to see what else you have been up to. I bet your little cottage is looking lovely. :)
Hope you have a wonderful week, too.

  18. Hi Jen!
You aren't coming to Minnesota to The Creative Connection are you? Just a blogger event/party/gathering on Friday evening here {with gals going to the Junk Bonanza}and thought just maybe...

  19. ohhhh your going to have a GREAT time! And that name was SO familiar to me! My milk delivery is from Meadowbrook farms! LOL! Thanks for linking her blog, can't wait to check it out!
So jealous, but one day we will meet!! :) Can't wait to hear all about your fun visit!

  20. Vintage, definately. Now I gotta go and check out the mercury glass at Anthro... I can't believe $6 bucks!

PS have a great time with your houseguest.. as well as the "others". It's great you can all get together like that!

  21. Oh, I love that mercury glass! You girls are gonna have so much fun!

  22. I have the Ikea piece in my scraproom and I do love it but I would trade it out in a second for the right vitage piece!

  23. Ikea v vintage , I think I'd wait, enjoy your guests stay.

  24. yay you & some girls time!!!

cool ikea piece but love the thought of a sweet vintage piece in your cottage.....hard to wait though huh?

great mercury glass. i have a few of those too. love it!!

brinkley sends millie some love right back!!

  25. I say "instant gratification" and head to IKEA! Love that place! If something else comes along later you can use the IKEA piece somewhere else.~Hugs,Patti

  26. Have fun with your company! I can't wait to hear all about the visit.
If it were me, I would wait for the perfect vintage piece but I know that takes time.

  27. I have the smaller version of that IKEA piece in my bedroom. Sometimes you have to go ahead and buy the IKEA. When the perfect vintage piece comes along, you can replace it!

Have a wonderful time with Teresa!

  28. Ooh - can't wait to hear about your visit!

  29. i vote vintage (if a stranger can actually have a vote.) If you go ikea, you'll be in danger of saying, "I already have something" when you find IT.

    Good luck.

  30. how fun. you girls are going to have a great time together.

  31. Go with the Ikea. It can actually look cottagey depending on the accessories (wicker baskets, etc.) And even the accessories you can get - the drawers and doors - can be made to look vintage depending on what you do.

Yep, lots of experience making Ikea fit my cottage interior design lol

  32. Hi< found you through farmpatch farmgirl, so glad I did, lovely blog! Blessings!

  33. Your home is absolutelly beautiful. So nice colours and furnitures and everything -i just say love it!
    Wilhelmiina from Finland

  34. I have that Ikea. For the time being, they are filled with a product from Target, which was by Covermaid, I believe. They fit perfectly.

Are we talking Teresa MacFayden? Whoever this woman is, she is going to receive a nice basket of welcoming (TM does have a daughter so may be thinking of the wrong one)

    Outstanding post.

    Suz Reaney

  35. Thanks for the heads-up on the mercury glass.... I guess I'm going to have to try to get to Anthropologie...

    Warm blessings,

  36. Jen, love the vintage piece! I know how you feel...I've been trying to blog, but September has been busy. Thanks for the heads up on the mercury glass. Hope you have fun plans for the weekend ;)

  37. lovely...

  38. Vintage. Definitely. I have the Ikea shelves you pictures, and while they're somewhat useful, they don't inspire, and they certainly aren't a good fit for my cottage-like home. d

Referring to another blog, I have the same bedding dilemma -- and it's been going on WAY too long!

  39. I have been so busy with the first weeks of school that I have not checked any of my favorite blogs. I don't know what you decided about the Ikea shelf, but I have to tell you that I am in my studio right now and looking at my Ikea shelf. I LOVE IT! It was a hassle to put together (not for me of course, but my husband). Once he had it built, it took 4 of us to lift it up. I have "things" all over it- hanging, tucked into baskets, stacked in cute boxes. I love coming into my studio to create and look at the shelf to remember what I have. Whatever you choose, enjoy it.

Thank you for taking the time to say hello today! I always love to hear what you have to say.
