Miscellaneous Monday the Novel

I've been trying to find time to blog for days! There is so much going on here at our cottage. For instance, right now I'm trying to decide between waiting to find the right vintage piece for my studio or just going and getting this from Ikea. Old school vs. New school. What would you do?

Lately our house has had a revolving door of company and this sweet lady is on an airplane right now on her way to visit me. Probably she's just coming for the Village but I'm gonna pretend it's to see me too. We have  many adventures ahead of us this week.

I hope she enjoys her stay in Emma's room. She has all boys so I think she will be in pink heaven. We're planning on meeting up on Thursday with a couple girls you might be familiar with. More on that soon.

I also wanted to show you the lovely mercury glass I found at Anthropologie today. Do you love mercury glass as much as I do? This isn't a great picture but if I wait for a good picture I might never get a chance to tell you that these can be found for a mere $6 each.

I have a few more things to share but they each deserve their own post. Soon. I don't know if I'll be around this week so if not, I wish you all a wonderful week!

  4. What fun the two of you will have!

There's a lot to be said for both vintage *and* IKEA...I'm no help, I know! Because I'm all about instant gratification, I say get IKEA now, then replace it with vintage when the right piece comes along.

    Have a wonderful week!
    Big hugs,
    Anne

  5. How fun to meet Teresa! I am sure you will have a wonderful week with your fellow bloggers!
I'm not sure what your budget is for your studio, but Ikea is always easy on the wallet, and looks good to boot!

  9. I actually bought the Ikea bookshelf for my home office and it is awesome. Sometimes practicality has to come first. And it actually looks great too. Lots of room for stuff. Love ur blog frances

  10. How fun! I think I know the gals you're meetin' up with *wink* Have a super great time :)

I say the same as Anne...get IKEA now, then keep an eye out for something vintagey to replace it with. You can always find some other place to use the IKEA piece.

  11. Have fun with your friend. I will be waiting to see what else you have found...and oh..yeah...I love mercury glass (even the imitation...I won't even tell you that we used to rub nickels with mercury when I was a kid to make them shine)...and lived to tell about it!>)

I'm glad Teresa is going to get a bit of girly pampering...we all need that! Diana

  12. I have been feeling the same way about blogging! Time is limited these days. I love the vintage piece for your studio. It is worth waiting for! Enjoy your friend's visit. I just love her basket of goodies. Such a sweet touch! She will feel special!

  13. JenniLo! I can't believe that Ben will be there in few short moments. I love the little basket you have waiting for her. So love it. Gee, I wonder why I wasn't invited. I would go for the Ikea shelf too, cause you'll always find a spot for it. If you are anything like me, the moment you buy it, you'll find exactly what you were looking for elsewhere!

  14. Go IKEA....until the right vintage piece shows up! It's practical and not expensive and takes the pressure off to find the perfect thing.
    ...and have fun!

  27. I have the smaller version of that IKEA piece in my bedroom. Sometimes you have to go ahead and buy the IKEA. When the perfect vintage piece comes along, you can replace it!

Have a wonderful time with Teresa!

  29. i vote vintage (if a stranger can actually have a vote.) If you go ikea, you'll be in danger of saying, "I already have something" when you find IT.

    Good luck.

  30. how fun. you girls are going to have a great time together.

  31. Go with the Ikea. It can actually look cottagey depending on the accessories (wicker baskets, etc.) And even the accessories you can get - the drawers and doors - can be made to look vintage depending on what you do.

Yep, lots of experience making Ikea fit my cottage interior design lol

  34. I have that Ikea. For the time being, they are filled with a product from Target, which was by Covermaid, I believe. They fit perfectly.

Are we talking Teresa MacFayden? Whoever this woman is, she is going to receive a nice basket of welcoming (TM does have a daughter so may be thinking of the wrong one)

    Outstanding post.

  38. Vintage. Definitely. I have the Ikea shelves you pictures, and while they're somewhat useful, they don't inspire, and they certainly aren't a good fit for my cottage-like home. d

Referring to another blog, I have the same bedding dilemma -- and it's been going on WAY too long!

  39. I have been so busy with the first weeks of school that I have not checked any of my favorite blogs. I don't know what you decided about the Ikea shelf, but I have to tell you that I am in my studio right now and looking at my Ikea shelf. I LOVE IT! It was a hassle to put together (not for me of course, but my husband). Once he had it built, it took 4 of us to lift it up. I have "things" all over it- hanging, tucked into baskets, stacked in cute boxes. I love coming into my studio to create and look at the shelf to remember what I have. Whatever you choose, enjoy it.
