In the meantime, since I can't go get creative with those lovely and talented gals I think I will just push myself to be creative at home. Where it's free. This shopping bag is my latest creation, made from directions in Romantic Home Sewing by Christina Strutt. It was fantastically easy to make. As you can see in the picture, Emma even made her own miniature version. Completely hand-stitched by her. Now, I know you are all just itching to know where you can get one for yourselves but I have to tell you that, at least for now, she is not selling them. I'm sorry. I'll see if I can change her mind. I can't wait to try another project from this book. The fabric I used is actually a Shabby Chic window panel that I got on clearance at Target awhile back. I have plenty more fabric left from it and will probably use it next to make an apron.

Silver Bella Wannabe
I'm pouting. I really want to go to Silver Bella but it's just not in my financial future this year. It would be impossible for me to justify it when we are working so hard to get our finances in order. Of course that doesn't stop me from going to the website every day just to see if there are still openings. And it doesn't stop me from looking at the schedule. And it doesn't stop me from picking the classes I would take if I could go. I wonder if there are any scholarships available. Ms. McFayden, are you listening? So anywho, I thought I'd throw a pity party for all of us who wish we could go, but can't. Wanna come?

Very cute bag...both of them! You have inspired me. I have that book and I just got my sewing machine back from the repair shop so maybe I'll sew something this weekend! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThats a beautiful bag. Are there many easy pretty patterns like this in the book? I have the curtains you made the bag out of- its a lovely fabric!
ReplyDeleteThe bag is really cute. I think you can be just as creative at home.
ReplyDeleteGood job.
Rosemary
poor teresa - how many e-mails do you think she got about the silver bella wannabe's? i sent one - still holding out a glimmer of hope that i can squeeze it in...love the bag by the way.
ReplyDeletemy husband has been accusing me of having a big ol' pity party, too about Silver Bella. so i LOVED your blog entry today! also, what a great idea about purchasing clearanced shabby chic curtains and using the fabric for projects like the bag. great tip!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a delight...you sound so much like me...I "feel your pain" about not getting to indulge your creative side with such a great opportunity!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Jen, I love yours and Emma's sweet bags! I know, it is killing me too to not be able to go to Silver Bella, just so that I could meet Charlotte, and Heather, and Teresa, to name just a few! They are going to have SO much fun! We can console ourselves with the future blog posts and pictures that we'll hopefully see! *sniff*
ReplyDeletexo,
Kim
I am pouting along with you my friend. The last time I checked there were 7 spots open. I SO want to go!!
ReplyDeleteThe bags are just darling. You girls are very talented. I have so many projects from that book that I want to complete. I got a shower curtain in the same fabric for around $5. Don't you just love Target's clearance rack!
I am in on this pity party too! I have huffed and puffed all over this house for a week trying to convince my husband that it is life or death for me to go to Omaha. He just says, "Omaha?" and of course the credit card never appears. Love the bag, still wish I could sew!
ReplyDeleteHey girl, I'm pouting for you too. But you know what? You'll be there is spirit, right!? You gotta know there will lots of goodies to see and report along the way. Hope you'll tag a long anyway!
ReplyDeleteYour bag is SO great! I wish I had the patience to sew.
Take care my friend...
sniff sniff
ReplyDeletei am paige & i too am an unfortunate non-silver bella not in the budget girl!!
i will gladly join your club!
precious bag though!
Yes, you can be creative at home!! Seems like you are doing a great job of it, and isn't it such a good feeling to have your finances in order???
ReplyDeleteI think I will buy this book, I have heard so many good things about it. The bag is very pretty, I love your fabric choice.
Lidy
Both your bags are pretty! I love Target and the Simply Shabby Chic line. I bought a shower curtain there today so I could use the fabric for a sewing project. Maybe we could all do some kind of creative project and post about it in sync with Silver Bella?
ReplyDeleteManuela
I love the bags and of course I'll be consoling myself with future pictures too.I think it would be fabulous to meet all of them and attendees just like me. Maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteok...both bags are cute but the little one is sooo cute...can just imagine my daughter doing the same thing. Silver Bella is right smack in the middle of mad soccer season...there's just no way I can go but, like you, would love to.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you, Jen. How fun is Silver Bella going to be?! Well, I guess we can read about it in their blogs ~ OK, now I have to go and get that sweet book. I love your tote and that tiny tote is adorable!! love it all, Dawn
ReplyDeleteI am there with you! I want to go too, but can't this year. :( I will make it there someday, hopefully next year!
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky to get to go to Silver Bella this year! Maybe I'll see you there next year? I hear great things about it, but have never been.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bag you have made.
Oh yes, I'm sad too. Same reason - just can't justify the expense this year, maybe next. I'd even stopped reading blogs for a few days because it was making me sad to read about other people going.
ReplyDeleteThe bags are very cute, I need to check out that book!
