Silver Bella Wannabe

I'm pouting. I really want to go to Silver Bella but it's just not in my financial future this year. It would be impossible for me to justify it when we are working so hard to get our finances in order. Of course that doesn't stop me from going to the website every day just to see if there are still openings. And it doesn't stop me from looking at the schedule. And it doesn't stop me from picking the classes I would take if I could go. I wonder if there are any scholarships available. Ms. McFayden, are you listening? So anywho, I thought I'd throw a pity party for all of us who wish we could go, but can't. Wanna come?

In the meantime, since I can't go get creative with those lovely and talented gals I think I will just push myself to be creative at home. Where it's free. This shopping bag is my latest creation, made from directions in Romantic Home Sewing by Christina Strutt. It was fantastically easy to make. As you can see in the picture, Emma even made her own miniature version. Completely hand-stitched by her. Now, I know you are all just itching to know where you can get one for yourselves but I have to tell you that, at least for now, she is not selling them. I'm sorry. I'll see if I can change her mind. I can't wait to try another project from this book. The fabric I used is actually a Shabby Chic window panel that I got on clearance at Target awhile back. I have plenty more fabric left from it and will probably use it next to make an apron.

  1. Very cute bag...both of them! You have inspired me. I have that book and I just got my sewing machine back from the repair shop so maybe I'll sew something this weekend! Thanks!

  7. Jen, I love yours and Emma's sweet bags! I know, it is killing me too to not be able to go to Silver Bella, just so that I could meet Charlotte, and Heather, and Teresa, to name just a few! They are going to have SO much fun! We can console ourselves with the future blog posts and pictures that we'll hopefully see! *sniff*

  8. I am pouting along with you my friend. The last time I checked there were 7 spots open. I SO want to go!!

The bags are just darling. You girls are very talented. I have so many projects from that book that I want to complete. I got a shower curtain in the same fabric for around $5. Don't you just love Target's clearance rack!

  9. I am in on this pity party too! I have huffed and puffed all over this house for a week trying to convince my husband that it is life or death for me to go to Omaha. He just says, "Omaha?" and of course the credit card never appears. Love the bag, still wish I could sew!

  13. Both your bags are pretty! I love Target and the Simply Shabby Chic line. I bought a shower curtain there today so I could use the fabric for a sewing project. Maybe we could all do some kind of creative project and post about it in sync with Silver Bella?

  16. ok...both bags are cute but the little one is sooo cute...can just imagine my daughter doing the same thing. Silver Bella is right smack in the middle of mad soccer season...there's just no way I can go but, like you, would love to.

  20. Oh yes, I'm sad too. Same reason - just can't justify the expense this year, maybe next. I'd even stopped reading blogs for a few days because it was making me sad to read about other people going.

The bags are very cute, I need to check out that book!
