Inspiring Collections

As you can see from the list of things that I love on my sidebar, I have a natural inclination to collect. I Love the thrill of the hunt, the excitement of discovery. The collections have changed a bit over the years but the passion remains the same. What do you love to accumulate and how do you display it? For those of you having a hard time figuring out how to display your collections, here's some inspiration for you.

  1. I really love the apothecary bottle picture. I have a collection of chintzware. I display it much like picture #1. I also collect vintage watering cans. Fun post!

  3. I know I'm going to forget something but here goes. I collect: books (thousands), hammered aluminum (platters, bowls), cake plates, rabbit sculptures, antique hand-cut glassware. I have a very large collection of what I call "orphan creamers"... those are creamers that have somehow lost their sugar bowls!

I display as much as I can and I use the cake plates and creamers when entertaining. The hammered aluminum pieces are displayed on bookshelves behind other stuff.

    Great inspiration photos.

  4. Great photos, Jen! What do I collect? Besides dust? :-) Pottery, sea shells from beaches I visit, ethnic jewelry, and I have a budding Buddha collection.

  5. Whenever people ask me what I collect, I could usually list dozens and dozens of things. Sometimes I wonder if I should be more selective about what I choose to collect. But ultimately, my collections stem from what I love...and that's old black & white photos, old linens (tablecloths, napkins, sheets, pillowcases, doilies, etc.), baskets, seashells, hotel silver, and ... I could just keep going. I'll save you and stop! ;o) I love the pictures here on this post!

  7. Great photos!
My space for collections is very limited, so aside from the massive fabric stash, I don't usually have more than 5 or 6 of something.

  8. Oy. I collect very few things. I grew up in a house cluttered to the max with my mom's random dust-catching collections. Now I only have what I absolutely need and anything that I "collect" MUST several a purpose. For example, I adore displaying photos so I have loads of picture frames, I love t read so I have many books (that I read and reread), and I really like baskets because they can hold stuff.

  9. Oh! I forgot - I started a new collection/tradition. My boyfriend and I regularly visit the Coast so that he can fish and I can lounge. About a year ago I started saving one or two shells each time we went to the Coast. When I get home, I use a Sharpie to write the date (or a memory) from the trip on the shell and then save them all together in a big IKEA apothecary jar. It's a pretty decoration, memories, and a collection all in one.

  10. I just discovered your blog, and I love your collections!! I've been searching for antique sand buckets for a long time, but so far no luck. Where do you find yours?

What do I collect? Birdhouses, birds and other bird-related things, shells, unique vases, and I'm just starting to collect vintage dishes and doilies. I also have an angel collection and a small cat collection.

    Love your blog!!

  11. You know my penchant for dinnerware, Jen, so I guess that would be the one collection I really love to go on the "hunt" for!

I love the photos you have here! Great inspiration!

My favorite is the covered bottles. Im all for collections of anything! Unfortunately, I have too many to name. Besides, it would just make me think of dusting..uh, yuck..

  14. I'm a big collector of mismatched plates, teacups, and glasses. My mother turned me onto it. I have more juice glasses than I really know what to do with, but they make me happy.

    These collections are gorgeous!
