"Farmgirl is a condition of the heart."
I first read that quote on my new friend Shannan's blog, Flower Patch Farmgirl. As a frustrated suburb-dwelling-farmgirl-wannabe, it made my heart sing. Most of the time I feel like such a fish out of water and I felt like that quote made it okay for me to be a Farmgirl in the suburbs.
About a month ago Shannan, who I had never met, made the mistake of inviting me and Emma to visit her family in the country about 2 1/2 hours north of us. Well, here's a little something you should know about me, never make me an offer out of politeness because I will sure take you up on it and then won't you be sorry?
So Friday morning I plugged in the GPS and headed to Shannan's where we spent a wonderful day in the country playing with homemade sidewalk chalk, exploring, eating a wonderful picnic lunch(P.S. I'm still waiting for that salad recipe), touring Shannan's most charming farmhouse, picking blueberries and watching new friendships blossom. Shannan was so warm and sweet, her children absolutely adorable and her house- so full of character and decorated completely to my taste.
So Shannan, thanks for letting us crash your little piece of heaven for a day. We are so happy that we have planted these seeds of friendship with you. Next time we will make sure to have cash on hand and allow time to visit all of those barn sales.
I've always seen myself as a farm girl, too. Even though we live in town, I still like to decorate my house in a vintage farm-housy, beach cottagy sort of way. You don't have to live on a farm to have a farm-girl state of mind. :)
ReplyDeleteWe had SUCH a ball with you and Emma. I'm happy to hear that we didn't bore you to tears out here in the boonies! You can come back anytime - and I hope you do!
ReplyDeleteps- Did we really not get a single shot of the two of us together? We were too busy yakking to take some every important pics!
