Fabulous Friday

I've decided to start a new series of Friday posts about being fabulous. I am not currently fabulous but it is a goal of mine. For me being fabulous just means being the best me I can be, taking good care of myself and looking my best.  This does not mean trying to look like I'm 25. I'm 39 and loving it. I really admire women who take care of themselves and look fabulous no matter what their age.
I will also post my weekly weigh in results (down 1.6lbs this week) on the Fabulous Friday post. Let me just say that I am loving the food journal site that I shared with you last week. It has led to some interesting revelations. For instance, potato chips are not a healthy part of my diet. Who knew? I love me some crunch though so I have switched to pretzels and a fairly healthy pita chip I found-Kangaroo Sea Salt. Yum. Also, I discovered that I must give up one of my favorite, albeit most embarrassing treats, which happens to be a small bowl of brown sugar with chocolate chips sprinkled on top. This treat is commonly referred to in my house as a shame bowl. Clearly it's a one way ticket to diabetes. Don't try this at home kids.
My Sweet Hubby is on his way home from Germany right this moment and I can't wait to see him. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing what the weekend of house hunters might bring us. We had great feedback last weekend and we even had an offer from the 2nd people that saw the house. Sadly, they were crazy. Have a fabulous weekend!

  3. You are absolutely one gorgeous gal. Honest! Love your post today. I think Fabulous Fridays are a great idea. The older I get, the harder it is for me to believe that I'm fabulous. ha...especially when the body starts falling apart.
I can't believe you would eat a bowl of brown sugar and choc. chips. Interesting. Where did that come from, may I ask? Pure comfort food.

  5. Too bad about the crazy house offerers. It's definitely a good sign, though. And, I hate to disagree with you on a fine Friday morning, but my dear....you are in fact already quite fabulous. Shame bowls sound pretty fab too, but I do suppose they and the much loved salty potato chips (had some myself late last night) might have a slight downside. How about a mini shame bowl every once in a while? Seems a shame to cut them out all together. Have a great weekend with your Sweet Hubby!

  7. I love the idea of Fabulous Friday! You know what... I love that the fact that you shared with us about your "shame bowl". I think many of us have something like that - mine being peanut butter on a spoon sprinkled with chocolate chips and my friend has spoons of marshmallow creme! My husband and I are both down 20 lbs since Jan. and you know what?...I've had a few of those "shame spoons" The trick is to have one occasionally and really savor it, then you don't feel so deprived. Congrats on being down a few pounds, keep going!

  9. I'll be checking in on Fridays. Good luck and keep up the good work. I've been at this for a while and have done well, but have my ups and downs. The main thing for me was finding a form of exercise that I love which turned out to be dance! I went from being afraid to dance by myself in my own home to being in the FRONT of the exercise class dancing my ass off! I have lost 50 lbs so far. :) Michelle

  10. I'm not currently fabulous, either, but I'd love to be! I need a diet, exercise and a new wardrobe and haircut for sure! It's easy to loose your fabulousness, isn't it? Especially after having kids!

  11. hello fabulous one,

i love your choices of fabulous women. i have been trying to make healthy switches, too. for me a biggie has been limiting sugary drinks to about 1-2 cups of coffee with just 1 tsp of sugar, or just 1 (yes 1) bowl of cereal for breakfast and not a refill-palooza.

i love your "bowl of shame" because it shows the humor your family has and you've gotta have it!

well, we are getting ready for the big opening of "diary of a wimpy kid" -- are you guys?

happy house hunting! your goodies are packed and will soon be on their way.

  13. Jen, you are completely fabulous, and don't let you or anyone else convince you otherwise! I was thinking of you today as I write the Indiana chapter of my farmers market book, imagining you strolling the farmers market in the Village with your food finds in a little red wagon. A fabulous future = a fabulous today!

  14. Love this attitude and I am thinking it may even be contagious! Thanks for the Ashley Judd photo with the short hair. Did I tell you that I received the worst haircut in the history of the world the day that we left for Korea? Holy awfulness. Seeing the AJ pic makes me consider lopping off even more. (It really is very, very bad.)

Also, your bowl of shame rocks my world. Hail the brown sugar revolution!

  16. Ashley Judd, the most naturally beautiful actress, and Lorelai Gilmore (what is her name in real life?)too! Your longing for the house in the village gets me to thinking you are wanting a little piece of living in "Stars Hollow"... and who doesn't?

  17. Jen, honey! RUN from the "shame bowl!" :-)
I went to Michael's and bought a jeweled sticker that says "Fabulous" and put it on my full length mirror in my bathroom...I say "just in case I forget."
Good for you, working to improve your diet and to lose!
    You are AB-FAB

  22. Oh girl, girl ....you have struck a chord with this post. I'm sitting here now in pj bottoms, a pale blue Life is Good hoodie and my hair up in a 'Advice from a Squirrel' baseball cap. Teeth have not been brushed today, nor hair combed. I mean, it's OK, I know it's OK...but it's not fabulous. I want to be fabulous too! Can I join your "I Wanna Be Fabulous Friday' revolution?

  26. Good luck! It's hard to eat right. I am 42 and I feel the same way....I don't want to be 25 but just the best version of my 42 year old self.

I have never heard of eating brown sugar & chips! You must like sweets like I do!

  27. Well Jen I hate to burst your bubble but YOU ARE FABULOUS!

Just thought I'd chime in here. :-)

  28. I think you are fabulous too! And 39? I don't believe you!

  29. "Sadly, they were crazy"...too funny, I was laughing out loud!

My parent's house is for sale & they just had some crazies put in an offer, below asking, in which they also requested that my dad throw in 3 of his woodworking saws (worth thousands of dollars), ya know, because my parents like to just give away stuff. I wonder if they'd like to go through the closets too???

Fabulous Fridays are a great idea...I too think that the most beautiful women are those who take care of themselves & are clearly comfortable in their own skin.
