Fabulous Friday- Be Who You Are

One of the many advantages of growing older is that, if you are lucky, you begin to develop a comfort with who you are. We women tend to be very hard on ourselves. We focus on our faults instead of seeing the beauty that we possess.

There are a few things about myself that I used to be very self conscious about, my big hips, my freckles and the fact that my eyes are 2 different colors. As the years have passed, I have come to terms with these characteristics that I used to consider flaws.

Now instead of using fade cream, I adore my freckles. I've always loved them on other people.

I even love my curvy hips. No matter how much weight I've ever lost, those hips have always stuck with me. Those hips allowed me to carry my 2 gorgeous babies with ease and to cart them around with me for their first few years. They make me feel like a woman.

I'm not gonna lie about the eyes. That was a harder thing to come to terms with. But now I realize that it is just part of what makes me uniquely me. And that is something to be celebrated.

Take whatever it is about you, that thing that you can't do anything about and embrace it. Be who you are. It just might change the way you feel about yourself.

  2. True true, I will be 53 on Sunday and I am loving the way I feel about all my "flaws". I think freckles and different color eyes would be awesome!
Curves are always good. Thanks for this post. Happy Friday, Pam

  3. I remember you telling me about your 2 different color eyes...but I don't remember them ever jumping out at me. (Wouldn't THAT be freaky??) You are beautiful -- every bit of you. Thanks for reminding us to embrace it all! I also find that it gets easier, with every passing year. So, to my ginormous forehead, knobby knees, chicken legs, dumbo ears, crappy hair -- SMOOCH!

Like you, I've always had *hips*.... even when I was thin (which I am SO not anymore ;)
Wow, two different color eyes is very exoticly beautiful.
Yes, we women are way too hard on ourselves. We see the flaws instead of the beauty.
    Great post!

  8. Too bad most women only get this later in life. I met a man once with diferent colored eyes and I thought it was incredibly mysterious and sexy. Thanks for the nice post, got me thinking about acceptance.

  11. What a great way of showing us that we all have unique qualities and should be happy to show them off.
Here's to my jiggle parts and my wrinkle parts!

  12. This is so true Jen! Besides the fact that I really really need to lost 15 lbs, lol. I love myself. Flaws and all. Although sometimes I am surprised when I see a picture of myself because I still think of myself as 25, lol. Must be what I feel on the inside! :)
However I would LOVE some hips! I'm one of those girls that turns into an APPLE fast (when I gain weight) I'm short, big rack n belly and small hips, so I have to watch it!! :)

  13. Love the post! My eyes are two different colors too, and I don't mean slight variations of color either (similar to the dog in the photo, but one has both blue and brown). What was cause for ridicule in elementary school is now complimented on a regular basis. It is who we are...

  14. Jenn,

My friend, Donna and I, who were both at Silver Bella last year, put on a women's retreat each year which was called "Walk In Beauty" this year. We learned of a delightful song called, "Freckles," by Natasha Bedingfield, which came right to my mind when I read this.

I would love to gift you with this if you have ITunes and don't know it.

  16. Love your "Fabulous Friday" posts Jen (and the pic of that adorable dog with the gorgeous eyes) ♥ I agree about the "advantages" of growing older ...the feeling of comfort makes any age fabulous! And to make you feel really fabulous about your eyes - the gorgeous Jane Seymour has two different coloured eyes too :-)

  18. I love how I feel now compared to when I was say 25 or 35. I enjoy everything and everyone so much more because I don't have that selfconscious thing that kept me from being myself. I can't imagine how good my grandma must feel! Now...my sister has a green eye and a brown. We just thought it was cool....it is! Really cool!

  19. Great advice! I always think it's amazing when women become comfortable in the their own skin. I think each of us should embrace who we are! We are all beautiful!

  20. My son-in-law's eyes were two different colors too....one brown.....one green.....I think it made him EXTRA special.. :-) And, just think how unique that is....so few people have been blessed like that.

  22. Jen,

Sharon was the listing agent on our house in Carmel when we purchased!! I will say after it was all over I was left wishing she had been our agent...she truly had it all together. What's more my former neighbor, Sally, was working for her at one time. In the end, we went with Debra Wilson, who specialized in our neighborhood when we got ready to sell.

  23. My Aunt Peg has a blue eye and dark green eye. For all of my life I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I've ever known, right next to her little sister, my Mom. Embrass who you are no matter what because there is only ONE you. PS love your blog!

  30. Hard lesson to learn and I'm still working on it...

You should def try the lemon poppyseed cake! It is so easy and yummy. :)

I agree with you that some houses become a part of who we are! Sat we accepted an offer on our house after it was listed for only 2 days!!!! We are praying everything will go smoothly and we will close in May. I am happy and sad at the same time. :)

  35. This is a philosophy that I wish we could all live by through every part of our lives. In my late thirties, I feel I've finally come into my own and am so happy to just be. Finally not caring what anyone else thinks about me, and trying not to be too critical of my flaws. Thanks for reminding us all of what's important. I have freckles too, I love the things that truly make us each unique. Take Care, Carrie
