Detours

Sometimes in life the path we take requires detours to get us where we need to go. This is one of those times.

My life has been chaos lately and not just the typical moving stuff. This past Monday we broke the lease for the cottage we had rented. I'm not going  into a lot of detail here but let me just say that it was not in livable condition for anyone. I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my shoulders. At the time I didn't even care if we ended up living in a hotel for awhile. I just knew my family was not living in that house.

As of Wednesday we have signed the lease on a different cottage that just came up for rent. It is so charming. It has such potential and is a much better fit for our family. We are beyond excited. The location is amazing, just one street off of Main Street. We can roll out of bed and be at the Coffee Shop in 3 minutes flat.

I can't wait to share pictures with you. It needs a little love and a little curb appeal but I know I'm the girl for the project. I just know you will enjoy this process as much as I will. I feel so excited about this next step in our lives. I wake up in the mornings filled with happiness. I am amazed and grateful that it is all coming together the way it is.

We start moving boxes this weekend and the big move will be next Saturday. I have much to accomplish right now so I am signing off of here until we get settled in. I'll miss you guys and look forward to being a Villager next time we talk.

P.S. You still have until Midnight to enter Sarah's giveaway and you can visit her blog tomorrow to see who the winner is.

  1. Hurray!!! I am glad to hear that you have come to realize that the problems you saw on the surface of the house your first rented went deeper and was not the place for you and your family. Whew! Best wishes for smooth transition to your new cottage.

  2. Sometimes something doesn't work out and we're not sure why until the right solution comes along. It sounds like that is what happened to you. I'm so happy you found the right place for you and your family.

  14. Hey Jen, I'm another Jen who used to live in Castleton and whose best friend lives on 5 acres on 121st Street (surrounded by housing developments!). My sister lives in Castle Knoll. I'm curious to know just which "Village" it is (I keep trying to think -- actually, I have a feeling I know, and it's probably a town that starts with a Z). Anyway -- I can't wait to see photos of your new cottage, and I share your affinity for natural light. I just moved 3 weeks ago into the most wonderful place I've ever lived -- and there have been several! For me, it's gotta be "coastal-ish" -- not at the coast, but certainly coastal style -- easy to do when you live in NC! Skylights, open concept, I am in HEAVEN! I can't wait until you are too!

(p.s. I also have an Emma -- she's now 19 and headed to the University of NC in Charlotte to study art)

  16. I totally understand what you are going through. We just moved across the country 6 months ago and it was very stressful. Now we are waiting to hear from my husband work if we are being transferred again about 6 hours from here. It's a lot to do and think about. Good luck with everything working out.
