Cottage Sneaky Peeky

I thought I'd sneak in here to show you a bit of the cottage. There is about 4 feet of counter space and very little cabinet space. Also, notice the lack of dishwasher in the kitchen. When Maddie heard that news she said, "I hate that for you Mom." Little did she know. I'm going to take full advantage of the free labor she provides for these last 14 months before she goes off to college.
This little room off the kitchen that you enter from the backyard should probably be the eating nook but it's going to be the mudroom/pantry/laundry room for us with the kitchen table actually going in the family room.
This is the family room. To the right are 2 rather small bedrooms which are joined by a closet that goes all the way through. Does that seem very conducive to a happy marriage to you? No. Not to me either which is why we decided the 1st one will be Em's room and the 2nd will be the studio and the room straight ahead which is actually a front parlor will be the master. Sure there's no closet but there is privacy. And room for a king size bed. What?

This wall to the left of the stairs is where the table will go with our hutch going to the left of the kitchen door opening. The stairs lead to a newly renovated upstairs which contains:
This is Emma's play room. The pink chair is her reading chair and where she hangs out while we're busy working around the cottage. The other area is her play area. She is in heaven as she is used to playing in an unfinished basement. Plus there is just something about cozy, cubby little spaces with angled ceilings, right?
This is the tv room/Maddie's sitting room. That sofa table is where a tv will go and all of the video games will be up here too.

This is the other side of the tv/sitting room. Depending on how that narrow staircase hinders us this will either have a sofa or ottomans and floor pillows. Either way I'm sure the girls will love hanging out here watching ICarly. Not that Maddie watches ICarly. Or Big Time Rush. (she does)

This is Maddie's room. Lucky girl, huh? Being a lucky girl runs in this family I think. I look forward to showing you more as we start to make this place our temporary home.

  25. You'd be surprised how easy it is to adapt to no dishwasher - I've been without one now for 12 years with no plans to get one. Just until this winter I had about the same amount of counter space - 4 feet and finally got a freestanding counter with storage underneath which makes all the difference.
Your little cottage is cute and a nice transition to one of your very own.

  29. Lots of light and while the kitchen is small, it appears very fresh and sweet with the white cabinetry and spring green walls. Think of this as an opportunity to let go of all your clutter!

  34. Ah, I really like it--wondering why you will only be there a short time? I have been without a dishwasher for over 23 years and I don't really miss it. I find doing dishes to be really soothing. I can put on music, listen to NPR, or just be quiet and look out my window and slowly think as I wash up!! I have come to find it quite relaxing except when I am feeling sick! Hanging out the clothes gives me a nice feeling too as long as the mosquitoes aren't bitting! my house blog is not at the nannykim one but here: http://spindlecottage.blogspot.com
