Front Porch
Outside it may be winter but in my heart it's Spring. I was officially ready for Spring approximately 3 seconds after Valentine's Day was over. Last year I was so focused on the inside that I didn't have time, money or energy to think much about the outside. This year I'm still low on the money and energy but I've got the time.
I thought I'd do a little before and after with you of the front porch since I'm officially spending so much time daydreaming about it being warm enough to use it. Above is what it looked like when the previous owner lived here. It was very dark. The ceiling was weighing the whole room down. The space just served as a pass through to the front door and I seriously doubt anyone ever sat in those lawn chairs. I only wish I could find a picture of the brass ceiling fan.
Now it's a destination. It's an extension of our family room. Emma and I can often be found on the daybed playing games and reading. It's also possible that my Sweet Hubby has photographic evidence of me napping out there. It would take a stronger person than me to resist this space when the windows are open and the breeze is blowing.
This is where we store many of our games, as well as binoculars and bird and flower guides.
Chippiness and history abound here. The daybed was purchased at a garage sale down the street for something like $25 while we were still living in the rental. We got this table at a booth on Main Street for $10 during one of our towns many events. My man turned it upside down and carried it home propped on his head. Making memories.
The ceiling is the same color as my studio which is just inside that aqua door and to the left. The walls are the same color as the family room so it all just flows really well. It is so peaceful out there. It beckons me. Now that the basics are in place I just need to do a wee bit more decorating. I'm afraid I'm stuck with that floor but I think some colorful artwork and pillows will help distract from it. I'm officially counting the days until I'm out there enjoying it again. I'll be sure to hide the camera from my hubby first.

ReplyDeleteI wish I had a place like that. We do have a little nook out front that would be fun to make cozy like your space. The daybed looks like a wonderful place for a nap. I love the color you used on the ceiling. Everything looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space! I love all of it, but especially the cabinet where you store your games! So pretty...
ReplyDeleteYou would be a fool to not nap out there! And one thing I know for sure, you're no fool.

I have always loved a porch. I can see how much you love this room..and it is like escaping to a different world almost, isn't it? Love the daybed. xo Diana....ps...WHAT you took out a beautiful big ol' brass ceiling fan? What were you thinking?;>)
ReplyDeleteI can see you out there on a summer's day with a pitcher of lemonade. Or margaritas ;)
ReplyDeleteI love that you choose a daybed for the space. Perfect for napping or group gatherings. If you want to make the floor less noticeable, you could get a larger rug (same style as the one that you currently have) & the focus would go to the rug. IKEA has a nice seagrass rug that runs about $100 for the 8x10

I love it and you would definitely find me napping out there if it was my porch! I was thinking you could paint the floor also. Any chipping that happened would just add beauty. I also like Kim's idea for a seagrass rug...that would look great in this space. Either way I can picture some wonderful days and nights spent out there!
ReplyDeleteI just love it! I'm working on my porch at our place on the lake too. You inspire me!
ReplyDeleteJealous!! And I love it!

So sweet Jen and so cozy just charming. The seagrass rug is a great idea and I would probably paint the tiles a neutral color.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful space! I love your choices of furniture and the turquoise touches are just right. I can see why you are anxious for warmer weather, it would be hard to get me off that daybed! xx
ReplyDeletei'm gonna come over and sit on that daybed with you and we can pass shelter magazines back and forth. let's plan that. ;o)
ReplyDeleteReally love how you made it so inviting. Who wouldn't want to spend hours there?
ReplyDeleteThat space is lovely! I'd be up for a nap there when the warm spring breeze blows too!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind your tile but if you wanted to look into it, a friend of mine says they have linoleum paint she is using on her kitchen till she can get hardwood. Maybe it would work on the tile too? If you really got too tired of it?
Looks beautiful and cozy. Just a few colorful throw pillows and some plants should complete it.
ReplyDeleteoh it's beautiful jen. i would be sitting out there reading a book or a stack of magazines. such a peaceful nook.
ReplyDeletebrilliant touches.
