The New and Improved Studio

Since Maddie moved out and her old room will now hosts guests, the studio has gotten a bit of a makeover. This is the wall where the daybed used to live. And while I think the changes are for the best, I'm pretty sure that some of my friends, who have slept in, or planned to one day sleep in the studio, may not view this change as an improvement.

I will say that I miss having a place where my family can sit and chat with me while I'm in project mode and because of that I will probably end up with a comfy chair in this corner one day soon.

I do love that I now have a proper place to store my ever growing fabric collection. We carried this shelf home from a neighbors garage sale for $2 and I gave it a wash of pink paint. I've told myself that I will only allow myself to buy as much fabric as will fit on these shelves. I like to lie to myself upon occasion.

I put all of my favorite papers, some vintage, some not in this flea market cart. Another case of trying to contain my collections.

I'm really able to spread out and work now. Plenty of floor space for cutting out fabric.

I pinned up this shabby chic tablecloth to help hide some of my storage. I had no hidden storage before and very much needed some.

My chicken feeder has been relocated below the pink wall shelves to hold some of my books and current projects.

I'm every bit as in love with this closet as I was the day my Sweetie finished it. Three work tables might seem extravagant but I typically use each one for a different project. One for sewing, the green one for general crafting and this one for journaling.

Much needed storage. With all the storage I have in this room, I still feel like I could use more. I wonder if I'm like one of those goldfish that grows to fit its environment, and no matter how much space I have, I will be sure to fill it.

The space to the left of the closet used to hold metal shelves. Very practical but not a lot of personality. This hutch was one of those 90's pieces that many of us have with wood crown molding at the top and a wood tabletop on the bottom piece. It's served so many purposes in the last 20 years but it has never been happier or prettier than it is right now.

It's a home for some favorite books, supplies and finished projects.

Pretty bits and vintage finds against an aqua backdrop. Be still my heart.

A basket of journals, some used, some waiting to be used.

I love that in the studio, everywhere I look there is a happy memory. There are vintage treasures discovered, gifts and notes from everyday friends and from some of you special blog friends. This space is where I can express myself and where I am most me. It's where I can come for inspiration on those not-so-inspiring days. I'm so grateful to have this spot to call my own.

  3. Is the back of your hutch a particular color, or did you mix it yourself?

  4. i love your studio and all it's minty, girly goodness! You do have lots of storage - but it looks like you need it. And you can never have enough storage. I would love to create in a space like that!

  5. Your studio is a pretty and airy space! Love the colours too. Mine is much smaller and in our spare 4th bedroom upstairs. We have a huge guest bedroom in the basement suite that rarely gets used, and I often consider switching them out, but the basement just seems so removed from the rest of our home. So for now I will continue to find storage solutions in the small bedroom.

  8. It's so nice to have your very own place to craft and dream! I love your storage ideas and all the happy colors! When my daughters grew up and moved out I turned their bedroom into my sewing room, too. Whenever I am in this special room, I am filled with wonderful memories of my little girls. I hope you have the same lovely memories and inspiration. xoxo

  23. Hi Jen,

What a lovely spacious craft room! Love that you have 3 table spaces to craft for different kinds of crafts. Pretty pink paint you used throughout and made the best use of your furniture pieces. It will be a joy for you to work in that spacious area. Congrats on a job well done. Lynnie

  29. Gorgeous, Jen! Your home is amazing. I saw your photos over at The Vintage Farmhouse blog and was very confused at first because I KNEW that turquoise door was yours! I figured it all out as I read her post. I have my own favorite "go to" lady and it's fun to show her where her "things" went.
Fun following you on instagram :)

  30. Lucky you!- It IS gorgeous. A slice of creating heaven! I completely understand the need for separate work spaces. NEED! I have a sewing desk, a writing desk and a do everything else desk. In a perfect world my 'do it all' desk would be three areas of it's own . . . computer, painting, crafting. Believe me, when my oldest moves out I have dibs on that bedroom- after it's been decontaminated of course. Teenage boy does not give out the wif of creativity. ;)

  33. Perfection. Really. I've always had a craft room (more of a crap room since it is always filled with junk) but have never decorated it or taken the time to make it a place to really CREATE. You've provided some really great inspiration for me!

  35. Your workspace is beautiful Jen. I yearn for a space like that. My current space is the dining table(clearing everything away every day!) and storage is various baskets and bags stored all over the house(some even in a drawer in my biggest boy's bedroom that he can't get into yet!- not sure how long I will get away with that one!). I really hope that one day I will have a room of my own to get creative in. You are very lucky. Fiona x
