This Week

The Spring busyness has descended upon our house. Yours too I bet. In the last week alone I've celebrated our anniversary, helped put together the Village newsletter, done lots of yard work, had dress rehearsal for Em's ballet recital and chaperoned two field trips. It's good busy, but I'm not one of those people that thrives on busy. I thrive on open schedules that allow lots of time for creativity and relaxation.

How else would I find time to work on projects like these curtains? I love them so much. They are even lined. I'm a little proud of myself. I tried to follow a tutorial but the directions were making my eyes cross. I'm more of a wing it kind of girl. Luckily I have an engineers brain so it usually works out fine for me. The thing I am most proud of is that all the windows came out the right length even though the windows aren't the same distance from the ceiling, (see how the one on the right is much higher?). I wanted to hang the rods at the same height which required me measuring approximately 2,327 times. I was still happily surprised that they all turned out the proper length. I figure one day I'm going to start a sewing project and feel confident. That day is not today, fyi. Also, I do not feel a strong urge to sew more curtains anytime soon but, after months and months on my to do list, I was very happy to finally finish these. I'm seriously trying to stop being such a procrastinator but I may put it off for awhile.

In other news, my Sweet Hubby and I celebrated our thirteenth anniversary. Thirteen years and I don't hate him yet! Actually, between you and me, I kind of completely adore him. He took me to a favorite restaurant that overlooks Main St on Friday for an early celebration. Also,he bought me five yards of mulch. Romantic, right? Ok, I kid. That was just a bonus. Our real anniversary gift won't be here until sometime at the end of June.

Another reason he is at the top of my favorite people list right now is because he made me this table. True, I asked him to make it for me last Mother's Day, but we aren't going to focus on that because he is a rock star table builder and I still need to suck up to him unless I want to wait until next Mother's Day for the benches to get built! Expect an entire post dedicated to his awesomeness after the entire project is completed. That's his incentive. No benches, no words of praise. After 13 years, I know what works!

Well, I'm off to clean more windows and do more weeding. Can you believe there are actually people that think a homemaker's life isn't glamorous?

  7. Lined curtains! I have to admire your patience (and creativity, of course). And I so like your sewing room. The L-configuration of working surfaces is still best! Looking forward to your table-and-hubby post. Belated happy anniversary!

  8. Your curtains look amazing. I love that fabric so much. I'm looking for something just like that for my living room. We have creamy white walls but one deep reddy pink feature one in the dining end of the room so I want something with a pale background and a bit of pink or red pattern maybe with some other subtle colours. Something like that would be perfect. Happy Anniversary as well! Fiona x
